Summer Swaddling?

Hi All! I need some advice from people who have had spring or summer babies. I am 33 weeks pregnant with my second child, due on June 9th. My son was born on September 17th, just as the weather started getting cold, so when I brought him home from the hospital I swaddled him for sleep and naps. I am unsure if this is a good idea with my second baby, since he will be born in late spring and will be little through the hot summer months. Do you think it is a good idea to swaddle in the summer or do the babies get overheated? Thanks in advance for your advice!

What can I do next?

those lightweight waffle-knit stretchy blankets are the best! that with a onesie underneath is great.

My son was born in February and still lovest to be swaddled. The waff;e weave blankets were a life saver. They are available at Target. They are lightweight and stretchy, so they are easy to swaddle as they get bigger. The swaddlemes work well too. The issue I am having now is as my son gets longer, he kicks out of the swaddle so his bare feet are exposed and he gets cold. I have tried socks, but he kicks them off. That is where the swaddlemes come in handy, the feet are enclosed. Hope this helps!

My son, born 6/27, didn't like to be swaddled. I tried but he always kicked out of it. My daughter, born 7/30, loved it. Just use a light weight blanket. Like a receiving blanket and they should be fine.

Swaddling is a must, no matter what the weather. PJ's ans a blanket in the winter and a onesie or just a diaper and a light blanket in the summer. A baby needs to feel secure and swaddling provides that. I am a modern mom, taught by an old school mom and I found that if ever I did not swaddle either one of my children they would squirm, wake up, and just not be at peace. Babies R Us now has something called Swaddle Me blankets. They're blankets in a particular cut shape that make it easier than the old fashioned swaddling. They come in great colors and designs and pending the season, are made of cotton or fleece. Check them out on line. If you don't care for them there are a variety of light cotton blankets you can choose from. Definitely swaddle though.

Hi B.,
My daughter was born in April and it had just started to get hot....she was a premee and only weighed 5lbs4oz but still loved to be swaddled...I actually bought those "Swaddle Me's" from Babies R Us and they were perfect...there is kind of like a pocket you stick them in and then velcro the wrap around them...much easier than the way the nurses do it in the hospital...I cant tell you how many times I had them show me how to do it and I could never get it tight like they do.....I think if you even just use the swaddle me and no other blanket the little one will be fine!! Best of luck!!
Meg :)

Absolutely swaddle! There are some wonderful lightweight swaddling blankets available at almost every baby shop. Or if you are crafty by some lightweight fabric - preferably cotton, add some trim and yor baby will be very happy indeed!

Yes babies & young children do get overheated much easier than adults but you can still swaddle. Also keep in mind that the core body temp drops while we sleep so lightweight jammies or a onsie under the swaddle is perfect.
