Summer Soccer or Other Sport for 4 Year Old in South Hills

My daughter is going to be 4 in April, and I would like some team activity for her to participate in during the summer. But I am not finding much. :-(

I was thinking soccer because she loves to kick around a ball or maybe t-ball because she throws really well and is fairly good at batting. But South Park (where we live) only has fall & winter soccer programs. I found a soccer camp in the city, but as a working parent, I can't get her to and from a camp on a weekday from 9:30-11 a.m.!

She is in dance school fall - spring and loves it, so I don't want to replace one with the other in the fall, especially since I don't know if it will be the right fit for her. And I would like for her to be involved in something during the summer months.

Does anyone know of any regional organizations for her age group that we could look into?

PLEASE HELP!

You might check out the Mt Lebanon Rec Center:

I don't think they have their summer stuff up yet, but it's reasonably inexpensive, and usually not that much of a bump for those outside of MtL.

The South Hills YMCA has a summer soccer program for that age group. Not sure if it's based out of the Cloverleaf or USC location.

I have found that there is not much around Pittsburgh for the summer. I think that most organizations assume that too many people are taking vacations in the summer, and so there are not many sport leagues planned. I have found spring and fall soccer, spring T-ball, and spring and fall deck hockey in the North Hills. But nothing for summer.

The only thing I have found in the summer that you might be interested in for this age is swimming lessons at the outdoor community pools.

Sorry I'm not of much help, just wanted you to know that you're not alone in coming up empty for summer leagues in the area.

go to soccershots.org. its a great program that we are in now. It is on tuesdays or saturdays and is indoor at the hillcrest christian school in bethel park (it is in their gym). They have an 8 week program every 3 months for the kids so it is 4 times a year starting at age 3. My daughter is in it now and loves it. CHeck it out!!

I second the YMCA in your area - the one in Sewickley has all kinds of sports programs for ages 2-8 (not all in the same class, of course), including basketball, soccer, gymnastics. We'll be signing up for a few of them. Also, try the JCC in Bridgeville (not sure if that's close for you) - I used to work there and they had several classes for kids during the summer. Good luck!
