Hello Ladies!

I am looking for some suggestions of things to do this summer with my kids. I will not be working during the summer so money will be tight. I have two (2) daughters. One 11 & the other 6. The 11 is currently taking Spanish and plays a flute in school. Does anyone know of any programs for either of those subjects. Any suggestion for both kids would be greatly appreciate. We normally go to the pool, library, park, VBS and other free type of activites. We live in Houston, TX. Thank You! Have a wonderful evening!

What can I do next?

Hi Kim,
Sounds like you have lots of great activities to do. Have a family game night maybe once a week. We play trouble, monopoly, checkers, Wii, Family Feud DVD, etc... Sometimes we turn to GSN and play along with the contestants. Check places for kids eat free for family dinner outings. Some Denny's are every night after 4 or Tues/Sat. James Coney kids free on Weds. Check out this website: http://www.freeinhouston.com/

Have a funfilled and safe summer!

You could always do multiple VBS camps. Every church is on a different rotation and they all do them in about a five week span. I know of a few in the nortwest area if you are interested. There are always free days at the museums too, you just have to get on their e-mail lists and they will let you know. Hope you find many, many fun things to do!!

God Bless,
S.

My daughter is taking spanish with the Texas school of languages on Jones road. The owner/teacher is a cy-fair isd spanish teacher and she has weekly lessons as well as summer camps available and is flexible with schedules. Look up texasschooloflanguages.com. we are very happy with the instruction.

I see that you live in Houston, and I am not too familiar with events in your area. However, I attend First Colony Church of Christ in Sugar Land and received an email yesterday about the Summer Camps available starting in June. I believe they are a week or so long and run around $100. They have all types of programs including band/music, spanish, etc. You can check it out at www.firstcolonychurch.org for more information. I hope you find something for your kiddos! Good luck.

I am a contributing writer for www.sugarlandmom.com and the editor just updated the site this week with a whole section on things to do this summer. Many are in the Sugar Land area (as the name suggests) but many are in Houston. We plan to check out the new Children's Museum this summer--they've supposedly added a whole new section to appeal to the older kids. There is another Houston-focused site like the SLMom one but I can't think of it right now--if I do I will post it. Have fun!
