Suggestions on Weightloss

My husband and I have been talking about babies for a little while and his one consistent request is that I'm in shape for the pregnancy. I'm currently about 50-lbs overweight and, because of my history with pregnancy; he wants me to lose it before getting pregnant. Not a bad request, he just wants me to be healthy and have a healthy pregnancy.

My problem is that until a few years ago I never had to worry about my weight. I got a desk job about 5 years ago and gained weight just sitting there with no activity. I'm finding it hard to conform to a diet and workout routine. I've tried Slim Fast *which worked* but they changed their stuff to the Optima and I can't bring myself to drink it anymore. I've done Weight Watchers but it was hard to stay in the points with our active schedules. My son goes to Sylvan every Tuesday and Thursday and has baseball games on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday *each week is different*. I have a membership at Golds Gym and was going to the one on the north east side of town until I lost motivation for that. I know I have to really get my butt in gear to lose the weight. We are talking about getting pregnant within 6 months to a year so I really don't have a lot of time. I need something that's easy to stick with, maybe a buddy system even. I tried that once but my "buddy" was the one not motivated to do the program so I finally got frustrated and quit. I know, how lame, right? It's time for me to really get serious, I just don't know how. Anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

If you want you can email me and we can talk more about this.My email address is ____@____.com Hope to hear from you soon. Have a great day!

May I suggest south beach diet. I have recently lost 40 lbs and lost it within a years time. They have easy options such as TV dinners, lunch wraps, meal replacement bars and breakfast bars as well as snacks. You can research the diet online, there are 3 phases to follow and basically it is a diet following whole grain food as well as lean protien and food high in fiber. I have also struggled with my weight up and down and have had 2 babies and this is the only thing that has worked for me. I hope this puts you on the right track. Oh and I didnt really work out for the first few months and still seemed to lose the weight, I added walking on my treadmill at home a few months into and recently added weight training. Its an easy diet to follow and stick to. Good Luck!!

try the shot and pill. It's a little pricey for the visits but you end up saving money on food. I lost 50 lbs in 3 months and am currently 18 wks pregnant. You have to get off of it when you begin to try getting pregnant. It worked wonders for me and as soon as I am done breastfeeding i will go back on it. Dr. Tracy Vicari and Dr. Cozzolino both do it. Also Dr. Garcia. Dr. Vicari's number is ###-###-####. Good luck!

I would be more than happy to help you! I also need a buddy to stay on track. I have to wait till my baby is born, he's due May 28..but then it will be the Carb/Protein diet. My ex is a personal trainer and uses this with all his clients, it sucks but it works after a week you get used to eating this way then once you hit your gooal weight, you get one cheat day a week. Of course it's difficult, but I know I will need to lose the weight and you have a good excuse. Typical day of eating note this depends on your weight of course
Breakfast 2 egg white and 1 egg yolk and 1 cup of cream of wheat of oatmeal
3 hours later apple and peanut butter
lunch 6 oz chicken, brown rice or baked potato, salad
3 hours later protein shake and orange
dinner steak, b potato or brown rice, salad
if your hungry a protein shake
Of course there may be some modifications. I am going to talk to my ex to see if anything changed. HOpe this helps!

Wieght watchers no has the plan called felx points, you eat all you want of certian foods, till you feel full then you stop, and you have 35 weekly points to use as you want, alot of people that i did weight watchers with were doing this plan and loved it, they could eat all they till they were full(satisfied, not over stuffed). You might want to look into this. Have you talked to your hubby about doing it with you?

Hi C., I am like you, looking to get pregnant again in September, but have about 50lbs to lose first. I am doing a diet that is working great! BUT is very strict. You eat from every food group, but only certain foods. I lost 8 1/2 lbs my first week and my sister lost 10lbs. My sister is on it through a doctor, and it's very healthy. The average weight loss for their clients with NO exercise is 4lbs/week. I know another girl who did it and has lost 30lbs in 6 weeks. I would be more than happy to tell you all about it, if you don't mind a very strict diet. I don't mind the strictness because it yields fast results. Unfortunately, it takes just really wanting to get rid of the excess weight. I was over 200 lbs over weight and have loss 80 so far on weight watchers. I could have given up many times but I want to live and see my grandkids grow up. Many health issues were begining to appear that my weight loss would take care of. Don't give up if this is important to you than make that discision and stick to it. I attend the WW meetings in Brandon where the Shapes gym is located in the strip center. We have an awesome leader on Thursday nights at 5:30 p.m. If you can make it you can join our group and I will be happy to help support you in your weight loss. WW does work and you can eat out and still make the point system work. It is learning what to eat and making sure you count the points.

Dear Dear C.,
I am willing to be that buddy. I certainly have the need. I am prior service and have an old old past history of cross country running and won a few medals. That is to say I have a mental memory if not a physical memory to make me believe I can do it again. As long as I have someone to be present with me I will make time. Alone I lose it. If you would like to give it a try with the buddy system again, I would like to lose some weight for my family reunion in June. My husband and I are the host. I became a stay at home mom. Yes, the weight piled on. However, this is the last year for my twins and I could use the destressing of a regular well balanced exercise program. I can disciple my eating for healthy and proportioned meals but I don't diet well. I live close to your area and would be willing to talk about a schedule. I also signed up for a cetification in physical fitness and need to practive the suggested exercises to pass the course. ____@____.com.

I personally like the Arbonne weight loss program. gofigure8.com and you can also find the products on my website cindyleach.myarbonne.com under shop online and than go to the weight loss program.
If your someone who wants a more pure and botanically based product which it not being chemically based this is a great and healthy way to lose weight. I lost about 2 pounds a week. ALL I did was replace my breakfast and ate a normal healthy lunch and supper. I replaced my sugary snacks for there weight loss chews which peanut butter and chocolate are my personal favourites. They kinda taste like a tootsie roll. But they have nutrients in them and they also help curb your appetite as well as take the edge off of that sweet tooth in me. My weakness! You may want to lose more fast but typically the programs who have you losing weight faster are the one's that make you gain back twice as much as you started with when you stop. This is a gradual and healthy way to do it and it's easier to maintain. If your wanting to be more aggressive you can replace two meals with the program and you'll lose more. Than gradually go down to one meal replacement. They have a supplement, protein powdered shake (chocolate, vanilla, chai flavors), fibre powdered shake, chews and they also have a detox tea which is really good with a drop of honey or two. I also take the herbal colon cleanse with it to clean you out if you know what I mean. You don't have to worry about the tea and cleanse when your working. It doesn't goe through you like that. I can take it all day long and it doesn't effect me that way. On the go figure8 website it shows 100's of recipes for the weight loss program and also shows 100's of recipes for the shakes and what fruits to mix them with. I personally don't like any of the shakes out there without mixing with some fresh or frozen fruit. It's healthy and it takes great. Yes, there's sugar in fruit but it's a natural sugar and good for you. So if you want to hear a little more about this program and if you'd even like to try it out. They give you a 45 day money back guarantee on all there pure and botanically based products. It's a Swiss company that has been around for more than 26 years and has some great products for your health and wellness needs. The weight loss is just a great way to loss weight healthy and a easier way to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
LEt me know if I can help you out in anyway. I'd be glad to do so.
My name is C. Leach and when you go to my website you can reach me by phone or email anytime.

After I had my second child I found it hard to lose the extra baby weight, so my husband & I started a diet & workout program together. We do the Slim Fast diet, but we eat the bars. I don't know if you have any exercise equipment at home, but it may be worth looking at used equipment at rummage sales or Play It Again Sports (so you don't have to pay a membership anywhere). We use an eliptical trainer which allows you to burn more calories in a certain amount of time than a treadmill. Also, we use a video called :08 Min. Abs and Arms. There is an 8 min program for the abs and an 8 min. program for the arms. It's an older video & may look cheesy but it works!! We do it everyday. Because it is an older video, you may need to go online (try Bizrate) and purchase a used one. The key is to do this with someone motivated, so if your husband is wanting you to get healthy hopefully he can do it with you. We started this exercise/diet together in January '06 and we still do it and have managed to keep our weight off. Good Luck to you!!

I agree with what everyone else is saying. It sounds like something you really want to do, and are just lacking the motivation to do it. You just need to get up and out and do it. Also, you could try some things while you are sitting at your desk to help tone your muscles. It's not stuff that will get your heart rate up, but it does work as far as toning if you stick with it. Just tightening and holding your muscles for as long as you can helps a bit. And the best part is no one knows you're doing it so you don't feel like a fool exercising at your desk. And on your lunch break take a walk around the building or block depending on how much time you have.

I'm with you sister--how many diets and how many gyms. I am currently doing a physician supervised program, but am still not sure if it is going to work for me. Lost lots the first week and almost nothing the second. I am going to give it another couple of weeks, but it is expensive. The difference for me this time is that I have a goal -- and it has made it easy for me not to eat what I'm not supposed to have. I can honestly say that I have not cheated once, and that is a good feeling. It makes me proud of myself. Looking at a goal, I don't know what better goal you could have than a new baby. Look to your goal--keep it in your mind every time you want to grab something you shouldn't. Put up pictures of adorable babies--on the fridge, on your desk. I used to think of food all the time, but it is truly mind over matter. Is that piece of bread really such a big deal??? What is really important to me?? When you are truly ready, you will be successful. What has worked for me also is that I pack up the food that I can have for the day in an insulated lunchbox. When I go to work I know that everything I need is in that box and I don't have to "try to find something to eat". That's when temptations happen and you find something you are not supposed to eat. I sat next to a chocolate cheesecake and ate my salad. I don't know if I could have done that before without taking "just a taste". Good luck -- I wish you the best.

I have tried many things in the past and exercise all the time. There is a lot out there to give fast results, but you need something that will be lasting and a healthy approach. Hi C.,the only advice I have is that it isn't going to happen unless action is taken. The best thing to do is start a food journal. Write down everything you eat and drink. You'll be surprised at how many calories come from drinks. Cut out all drinks, ie. soda, and drink water all day. (Coffee with skim milk and s/l, if needed.) Lay off all processed foods. Eat lots and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Egg whites and grilled chicken are great sources of protien. Berries and f/f yogurt make a great breakfast. With your busy schedule, just think ahead. When you are at ball practice take healthy snacks. An apple, a few walnuts and raisins, just to name a few. Even those 100 calorie snacks might curve some cravings. And water, water, water!!! Spices can make any bland food taste good. South Beach has multi grain wraps- only 110 calories. Use those to make sandwiches. Add roasted turkey slices and low fat chive and onion cream cheese, a little lettuce and carrot slices. I like cucumbers on mine, but any crunchy veggie will do and lots of them. Just some suggestions. I hope it helps and I know its hard with kids in the house. I have three little boys that love donuts and icecream. It takes a strong will power and my food journal sitting in front of my at all times.
The best of luck with getting fit and with any future pregnancy. R.

Hey C.,
I hear ya life is so busy and really hard to stay focused on taking care of yourself when we are taking care of our kids and husbands work and house work. I would suggest getting a a water bottle and make that your new best friend. I always heard you must drink lots of water to stay healthy. Another suggestion is to get up 45 minutes before you normally would and do a workout tape or some sort of workout that you like. I currently usually get up at 5am and run at your apmt complex gym. I do the slim fast also for breakfast and lunch. I just started that and i like the new ingredients it really does curve my appetiete. I am not hungry for hours. I too really want a baby another one. I have a 6 year old boy who is an amazing kid and i love him so much. My husband isnt ready for anotherone. So i say do what you have to do and get that baby on the way!! You can do IT!!! Good Luck!!

Just wanted to see how you are doing on your weight loss goals? Make sure you are drinking plenty of water - I learned that a lot of times when I would eat I was really just dehydrated instead. I found a great, simple way to lose my baby weight and start healthy habits - and I found it through my own Mom! I don't know if it will work for you, but you can check it out at www.powerup.isagenix.com. And the best thing is that it will help you to be healthier, not just weigh less, to better care for that new life inside you. All the best.

I am in the same situation. 2 years after having my son, I still have the weight because I don't have the motivation. Now, I have finally found what works for me and the weight is coming off! I have a lab/desk job as well. I bring carrots and apples so if I have to have something, I snack on those. I make myself get away from the desk several times a day and walk the stairs down and up (I work in a 3 story building). if you don't, you could walk around the building, find something like that. Excercise doesn't have to be a regemented thing, get it whenever you can. I don't do any diet program, I cook what I always cook for my husband and son, and I just eat a much smaller portion size and don't snack after dinner. When I can, I work out on an eliptical machine we have, but that is very rare! This is where I am going to enlist my husband's help. It is easier when you are both doing it!
Basically, just be sensible and have some self control. You don't need a "diet" program, they always drive me nuts! Lots of fruit and veggies instead of junk and get away from you desk several times a day. Simply walking does so much for you! Good luck with the weight and getting pregnant!

I am in a similar situation. We would like to TTC in summer of 2008. I was ten pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight when my DD was about 6 months old (yay breastfeeding!) Unfortunately as she has been in the process of weaning the weight is back on. However, I really want to be in good shape for my next pregnancy, and am currently about 30 pounds overweight. I just started a new job where I am sitting at the desk and my weight has been creeping up, not down! I would like to lose the weight and keep it off for 6 months to a year before conceiving though.
We have instituted family walks in the evening, I try to get up at 5am to go running (ugh!), and I am going to be taking a yoga class. A couple of my coworkers and I take a 15 minute break once or twice a day to walk around the block at our office. We have high stress jobs and it helps to keep motivated and to keep me from stress eating.
My vices are soda and chocolate. I am trying to cut one thing out at a time.
What do you do when your son is having his baseball games? Do you sit in the bleachers or can you walk around a bit? Can you go for a bike ride in the evening or on the weekends as a family? I guess you just have to institute little changes in your life. I had a c-section with my last child and I am planning to avoid it with the next one. Having a healthy pregnancy and birth next time is my motivation when I am tempted to eat something "bad" or skip my morning run.

I need to get fit too!!! After my first 2 babies I stayed skinny (even though I gained 60 lbs.) Losing the weight was very easy because I was nursing. Then after my first husband and I divorced and I met my current husband, all he did was take me to dinner- every night. I gain 5 lbs. and no longer had a flat belly- all in about 6 months. Jump forwand about 9 years, and 2 mores kids later. And baby weight isn't as easy to get off, even though I nursed- I love to eat now. I am not overweight, I am just not were I personally want to be. In my town they have just built a bike trail, so I have been taking my son and dog for walks. LOVE IT!!! I have a friend that works- and she walks around the square on each of her breaks and after she eats her lunch. Everyday!! If I go to the post office in the middle of the day I'll see her. I am sure with how everybody is about their bodies that there is someone that you work with (maybe even several) that would like to walk with you. Make up a flier and post it in the lunchroom and conference room.
We also have a very actice life- my kids, husband, and I hate spending a whole weekend home. My kids are involved in sports (football, soccer, and chearleading). So during those seasons our nights and weekends are busy. So I know what a busy family is. But if you are willing to better yourself you will feel and look better.
Good luck!!!

Hi C.,
I believe that it is all in you -- be serious about it. Write your weight on calendar and make a promise to yourself that you will loose 2 to 3 lb. every week. Change your diet -- may be one meal and a snack to less calorie and healthy one. Also, when your son is in any activity, you also can just walk or run around the field. May be run with your son on the weekend. I have 3 kids, and I do not believe in belonging to a Gym when I have my kids to help me run and be active (7,5,5). When they play soccer, I also run and at times practice with them. When they are in Kumon, I walk around the block. I am a software engineer so I have a desk job. Park your car farther and walk. I also take stairs, rather than elevator. Since as moms, we are guilty of eating high calorie food that kids are eating (or their leftovers..), then we need to be active like them. Also try to learn play Tennis or go swimming with him, an activity that both of you can enjoy.
Make a committment to yourself, if you are serious, and ask your son to help you stick with it.
good luck
