Suggestions for Romantic Getaway Destinations

My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary on March 20th. We are lucky enough to have family coming into town to watch the kids for a few days during that time and we are looking for suggestions for a romantic 2 or 3 day getaway in the area. We would like something that would be a relatively short drive (less than 4 hours) from The Woodlands area and would provide a romantic and relaxing atmosphere. Also since our anniversary falls on the first day of spring break for many schools a destination that is not too popular with kids and families on spring break would be ideal.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Hi there!

Congrats on 10 years!!
I have never been here, but I know people who have and have loved it. Fredericksburg (not sure of spelling). There are quaint Bed and Breakfasts, antique shopping, vineyards, etc. Google it and I'm sure a ton of stuff will come up!
Enjoy!!!!

My husband and I took a weekend getaway to Artesian Lakes Resort (formerly Chain-O-Lakes resort) just east of Cleveland, and we had a wonderful time. We chose the romance package which included all meals, a secluded log cabin and carriage ride to breakfast on Saturday. It's about $600 for the weekend, but we both agreed that we'd go back again when we could. Look up either name on the internet, and you'll find their website with all the packages listed. One thing: They may be booked already, so act fast. There are a lot of families that go there, but the cabins are very secluded, and no kids will bother you.

First, congratulations on 10 years! My husband and I just celebrated our 7th and we took the short trip to Austin and stayed at Lakeview Resort and Spa. It is right on Lake Travis. We rented a boat at the marina right by the resort and cruised around the lake for a few hours on Saturday. The resort is very nice and has great views of the hill country. It was a very nice place if you don't want to go far and don't want to spend a lot. The pool here was very relaxing. We also went to eat at Hudson's on the Bay which was GREAT!

You may be looking for something more exotic, but this was a great getaway for us.

Hi - I found the Magnolia Hotel in Downtown Houston of all places. I have taken my husband there for his birthday 2 years in a row and he loves it. It is a wonderful hotel with really nice comfy room - they have a breakfast buffet, a happy hour with comp beverages and fresh baked cookies at night. They have a nice bar area with a library, Houston's only rooftop swimming pool and a gym. The staff is great!! It is close to many great venues (the theatre district, Bayou Place, the Aquarium) or you could hop the train and go to the Museum District, Hermann Park or the Zoo.

Many times they run internet special via your email. I have seen the rooms as low as $79 plus tax per night. Normally they are around $200.

Congrats!!

There's a wellness center (natural spa) in Austin called The Crossings. I loved it! Check out their site.

I suggest a bed and breakfast in Fredricksburg, TX. We stayed at the Absolute Charm B & b( the carriage house). They do not bring breakfast, however they give you vouchers to several different rstaurants. Fredricksburg is lovely and charming. There is alot of shopping, wineries to visit , and so much more. I just loved it. I suggest going on a Fri and sat. My husband and I went on a Sun and monday, b/c thats the only time my family could watch our kids. Its a small town and many things are closed on Sunday and Monday. But we still plan to return. It was very romantic. And many b & bs do not allow children. Good luck. and happy anniversary.

I would suggest a Bed & Breakfast. We've stayed at several and have never been disappointed. For our 15 year anniversary, we stayed at one where they brought breakfast to our room in a picnic basket - it was wonderful. (Unfortunately, that one was in Michigan so that won't do you any good...) BUT we've stayd at one in Bryan College Station, San Antonio and Gruene. Most of them don't accept kids so no worries there. Go to www.bedandbreakfast.com and start searching. Good luck & Congratulations!!
