san antonio or austin are always fun for girls trips. you can book a hotel on www.hotwire.com we have had great experiences with it, you pick a hotel based on star rating and location and prepay. they then tell you what the name is (always brand names) and you can get a GREAT rate.
Galveston, Crystal Beach, Surf Side are all around Galveston, 4-5 hour drive. Have Fun, sounds like a blast!!

D. - not sure what you consider inexpensive, but if you're looking at the coast, my family & extended family took a vacation together to Galveston last year and we rented a house - renting a house is way more fun. I rented it through www.bayreef.com - go and check it out and look at the rates. Split between enough people and it's very affordable. The beach itself isn't fabulous, but we stayed in a canal house and it was awesome - we're planning on making it an annual trip. The particular house we stayed in (and will request again) was Wren's Nest. Good luck & have fun!
Hi D., have you looked into Texas Hill Country? I hear Fredericksburg is an awesome place to visit and a B&B would be just so much fun!
