How about cheerios - they sell a good type in the health food store. Also I bought this net from a baby store in the mall you can put all sorts of things in it.. the baby sucks on it, you can put grapes, blueberries, melon pieces, carrots or just about anything. It strains the food so that the baby doesn't choke. I think Gerber now sellls this product too. It's almost like a pacifier - but instead of the nipple it has a net you fill with all types of food. The babies love it.. I just to put big pieces of corn on the cobb in it.. and the kids really enjoyed it.. and you can put anytype of healthy food. I even put tomatoes and cucumbers in it. I think the store is first step.. you can find it on line too... buy one.. you'll love it.

Like one of the mom's below, I also used Melba toast. As well, I served my daughter Healthy Times teething biscuits... the do have some organic molassas in them, which is a sweetner, but they don't taste sweet to me. It's a tough call, especially when you want to keep your young children away from sugar. I am finding that there are not a lot of options out there.

Healthy Times makes teething biscuits that my kids LOVED. I was able to find them at my local health food store, but now you can actually buy them online.
They dont have "sugar" in the ingredients, but do have molasses. No sodium.
They come in Maple and Vanilla...

Hi Leslie,

I don't know of any sugar-free, sodium-free teething biscuit that is sold in a grocery store. There are many recipes I found online if you want to make your own, but it may be a tall order to find one at a store. Zwieback Toast (I think Gerber has a variation of the original) is very low in sugar and sodium content, and is great for little ones. My son loved to gnaw on them when he got his first teeth. As far as finger foods, you can always provide cut-up fresh fruit (soft melon would be perfect), steamed veggies (green beans, peas, and diced carrots), small pieces of cheese, or whole wheat pasta (may have small amounts of sodium and sugar). Cheerios also has some sugar and sodium, but they are great finger snacks for little hands.

I'm not sure if my suggestions are of any help, but I thought I would throw them out. Good luck!

There's nothing like a big fat carrot (not the little baby carrots!). If there are bigger teeth, you will need to be careful regarding choking if he can bite pieces off but I never had a problem with my daughter. I only gave her food sitting up in her high chair to avoid any danger of choking.

Wegman's has a great organics section with tons of teething-snacks, not sure if sugar/salt free, but probably something like that there.

other than the Melba Toast there really don't seem to be any options for teething biscuits with out evaporated cane juice or molasses.
So silly!

I would avoid sugar-free as most of the sugar is replaced with artifical sweetners. I'd rather my kids have regular sugar instead of the fake stuff. But have you thought of making your own. My daughter loves peaches or other fresh fruit. Cut it up and let him loose. My daughter gave up baby food at 9 mos. At that age she loved the gerber puffs.

I never really checked the labels, but freezing plain mini-bagels worked really well with my older boy. I haven't tried it with my baby yet but I think my older one was about 9 months when we started that. You could find some that have more natural products in them but they are definitely going to be healthier than some options.

My daughter's "cheerios" are called "Purely O's", made by Cascadian Farms Organic. They are made with 3 or 4 ingredients (and no sugar), and the texture is just like traditional cheerios, so they are great finger foods for babies learning to chew.

I came into the same problem when my daughter started teething. I couldn't find anything, so I used plain old melba toast. Worked like a charm and sugar/salt free! I also used the cascadian farms "o"s. Those were wonderful as well. There are other O brands without sugar, but the cascadian farms brand tends to soften up in their mouth a lot better than some.
