Stupid Cats

Ok, no, I am not an animal hater but my cats are driving me crazy. We recently got two new kittens and both are about 6 months old now. They are great, and I've had a cat in the past and adored him like you wouldn't believe. But these little crappers keep peeing on my clean baskets of laundry. I don't think they are peeing elsewhere (anymore) like piles of blankets or our beds, but this is driving me crazy. Like I don't have enough to do - I have to keep rewashing clothes or worse, we don't discover it until we are trying to dry off with what we think is a clean towel only to find we are smearing cat pee all over ourselves. AGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! DISGUSTING! Has anyone had this happen? They are trained to use the litterbox and after a brief settling period, they are fine and use it now all the time. And yes we clean it daily. Short of immediately putting away every basket of clean clothes (which is not always possible), what else can I do? I greatly appreciate any and all ideas!!!

Thanks!
K.

Mine did that too---guess what? She had a urinary infection. We let it go for ages (since she was about your kittens' age) thinking she was just being a little pisser. When she runied 2 pairs of $175 shoes we took her to the vet. I felt like the worst cat owner ever when the vet said she had a very bad infection and had probably had it for a long time. Take your babies to the vet and make sure nothing's physically wrong before trying anything else. Luckily there are injections they can give them instead of pills. If it's not that---then you can figure out what else might be the problem.

I have no advice, but wanted to let you know that the title of your thread made me giggle.

We have two cats and they can be a little "stupid" too. I hope what others have suggested helps.

Try getting one or two more litterboxes so there is at least one per cat. You need to immediately start hiding the laundry baskets somewhere where they cannot get to them if you cannot put them away right away, so that their favorite target is not there anymore for them to use. If it still keeps up, have the vet check them for UTI or kidney problems. I had a cat that peed places and when she got on special food it stopped.

Have you taken them to the vet? I had a kitten that was a rescue I got from a shelter several years ago. He had the same behavior. He ended up having polysystic (sp?) kidneys (cysts on his kidneys which made them not function right) and had to be euthanized because it never would have gotten better. I doubt both of yours have this, but they both could be blocked or have a uti. I would check that out first. (If they're males I would think they could both be blocked especially if they are both eating the same food. That's sometimes the cause.)

Mine used to do this too. I think they were trying to mark them with their scent because they didn't smell right (like detergent). Mine grew out of it. I don't know if they got used to it or just got more comfortable with their place in the household. We got used to putting our laundry baskets in the closest bathroom and closing the door.

Take them to the vet before you try anyone's tips or tricks to make sure it's not a medical problem, like others have said.
