Recently I was handwashing my daughters favorite and loved stuffed animal and used a hairdryer to dry it. I accidentally put it too close to the shark's belly and now there is a small area that's rough. Did it become melted? There's no major discoloration, I tried using those wired dog brushes but it didn't seem to work, any suggestions to help fix it?
Sounds like it melted from the heat. I wash stuffed animals on delicate and then air dry. You could attempt using a razor to gently "shave" just the very top layer of material. It all depends on how deep the melting is.

Yes, it melted! I'm sorry! Maybe wrap a bandage around the loved stuffed animal to make him feel better.
I've had something similar happen just from use. Something got on them and they matted up as if they were hard in that one area. I washed mine and added conditioner or fabric softener to that one little spot (tiny amount) and then just brushed it out while wet and left to air dry. Still there, but not as bad. If it was melted, doubt it will ever become soft again (I would Google - you'll probably get ideas online at a repair stuffed animals type sites) Good luck

You can't un-damage fabric. Next time toss it in the washing machine on delicate and cold water then in the dryer on delicate or low heat.
Hand washing it was fine but drying it with any sort of heat was what melted it.
If it's a small area then maybe the damage can be ignored but there's no getting it undamaged again.
Next time it's washed, let it air dry or place it in front of a fan for awhile but stay away from any heat.
Heat melts synthetic fibers. The area is rough because the fibers are heat damaged,. You cannot undamage them. There is no way to fix it.

I doubt yoy can fix it. Perhaps your daughter would like to sew a meaningful patch over to make it look like it's meant to be there. If the fur is shorter than the rest, it melted or if the fibers are stuck together. No way to soften it. It's made with synthetic fiber.
I wash and dry my grandkids stuffed toys in the washer and dryer.
Cut the fur off short then use a red perm marker to add a red heart and tell her he decided to get a tattoo. lol Good luck!
