Stroller for TALL Parents??

Hi all. I'm 5'9" and my husband is 6'4". I'm looking for a new stroller, but most on the market are too short for us both to use comfortably. We're currently using a travel system that is bulky and weighs a ton. I'd like an all-purpose stroller that is tall enough, easy to lift and fold, has good storage, and has a good sun canopy. For the cost of strollers, I don't think I'm asking too much! There are so many brands out there, I'm feeling overwhelmed. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

My husband and I both love the CHICCO strollers. We got the Sahara (2006) Travel system that accomodated the carseat- it has an adjustable handlbar which is great for tall ppl! Now that she is 17 months old, we use the smaller CHICCO umbrella. First of all it's a cinch to open and close. Great for lightweight travel. We love it because we can hold the bars comfortably- they are extended a lot higher than any other stroller we tried. They have great price points too. If you want to go all out... the Bugaboo is a favorite of my girlfriend. It has all the bells and whistles and works nice for us taller folks. I would have loved to own this one... but it's super pricey.

Try a Peg Perego Pliko P3. It has adjustable handles and a great sun canopy. Its pretty lightweight and folds into a small bundle that can stand on its on. We love it and couldnt imagine not having it. It doesnt take up much room and my son is very comfortable in it. Good luck!

Hello,
I am also 5'9". I invested in a Maclaren, which has lasted throughout a lot of wear and tear with three kids. It was pricey, but has been very durable. I got the model that can lay flat, which I found to be a handy feature, as well as with larger wheels. There's not a huge amount of storage, but I've been able to hang things off the handles. And, for tall parents, the handles can extend. So, it works for us, and my much shorter mother-in-law.It has been easy to fold, even with one hand.
Good luck in your search....

Try a Mclaren, they have alot to choose from and it is the first stroller I didn't have to hunch over to use.

I think the BOB Revolution is great for taller people. It's intended to be a jogging stroller, but it's used for general purposes too. It collapses easily and you can buy a fleece insert to keep the baby warm in the winter, cool in the summer and to give the stroller seat more padding. We got ours at REI on sale. They are still pretty expensive, but well worth it, considering we use it all the time and it's so easy to push, turn and maneuver. It's the only stroller I don't feel like I'm bending over to push.

Maclaren makes a stroller (well, at least one) that has handles which adjust. I'm 5'11" and it is wonderful. It's pretty pricey ($300) but it's light-weight, compact when folded, and seems to be very durable. You may be able to find one on Ebay for cheaper, especially if it's used. Or have a rich uncle buy it for you, if you don't have the funds...

We actually like the peg perego aria stroller, and have been using it for our 1-year-old. We had a MacLaren for our first (she's 7 now) and the issue for my husband was less the height and more the fact that he always kicked the back-basket when he pushed the stroller, as his stride was too long.

The aria has been great -- big basket area, and folds very flat. Also is one of the lightest strollers out there (without being an umbrella stroller), which is important for me.

Good luck!

The Bugaboo Cameleon and their new Bee are great strollers for tall parents as they have handle bars that adjust very high. These have been very popular with tall parents.

The newer MacLaren XLR is great too - adjustable handles. My husband is quite tall (and while a great athlete, quite clumsy!) He does great with this stroller.

If you can't find a stroller that works, I remember Right Start used to sell an extension bar that attached to the handle. You may want to check out their website and see if they still have it.

The Quinny is a great stroller for tall parents because of the long adjustable handle. My husband and I have the buzz which is a little on the heavy side. However, the company has a new model that is less expensive and compact with storage. We live in LA and do a ton of walking, and we stand by our quinny. Good luck!

Hi S.

I am not sure where you live but there is a great company called Lets Go Strolling that can help out. They are located in Oakland, CA and offer stroller consultations. But if you can't make it to the store their web site has a ton of information as well.

I also am 5'9 and we have a Peg-Perego. It works pretty well, but the stroller that I have heard that is best for tall parents is the Maclaren. They have them at Babies R Us so you can always go to the store and take it for a test drive.

Best of luck!

Have you tried the Maclaren Techno XT? It is the only model in the MacLaren line with handles that extend. Maclaren makes great quality strollers, which fold easily and compactly. They're not cheap however. My husband is 6'4" and we have the Maclaren Quest as well as the Bob Revolution. The Quest doesn't have the height adjustable handles, so it isn't as comfortable for my husband as it is for me. He loves the Bob. It's not a small stroller however. I'd check out the Techno XT. Babies R' Us carries them (as do many other online and specialty retailers)

Good luck!

Hi There,

I used to have a Maclaren Techno XT and it was the greatest!
The handles adjust up and down for short or tall, it lays out so babies can nap easily, and it folds up easy. It is worth checking out.

Hope this helps, D.

My husband and I are also tall and it is pretty hard to find tall strollers. We have the Combi City Savvy it is tall but does not have that much storage or that great of a canopy. It is super light and compact though so it is great for quick trips. We also have the Kolcraft double stroller that comes in an single also. We love it it is tall has great storage and the best part is the seat can face forward or backward. Pricier strollers tend to be taller but I that doesn't really justify the price in my opinion. Good luck in finding you perfect stroller.

My husband is 6'7 and I am 5'11. We love our McLaren Techno Classic stroller! It maneuvers great (used it while living in NYC in and around busy shops and sidewalks full of people!), has telescoping handles, very lightweight (you can lift and collapse with one hand!), storage beneath the seat and a canopy top. You can purchase a seperate (fuller) sun shade, as well as a screen. Mine came with a rain/wind sheild and traveling case. It folds easily and compactly and takes up very little room. It is comfortable and allows full reclining of the seat, which is nice for a sleeping kiddo, or baby pre 6 months of age. I can't say enough wonderful things about our stroller! Good luck!

I have a Bumbleride and you can adjust the handle. It doesn't compactly, but it's weighs only 16 lbs, which is pretty good for such a comfortable stroller. You can move the canopy all the way to the front for great sun protection. You can also reverse the handle, so that your child faces you. It has a lot of the features of the Bugaboo, at a fraction of the price. It also comes in great colors.
