Stroller Cleaning Suggestions?

Hello moms!

I have a hand-me-down Maclaren Techno XT (umbrella stroller) that I want to keep as a back-up or travel stroller. (I currently have a Graco Snap-and-Go infant seat/frame and I'm getting a BOB revolution soon.) Everything works but the wheels are very stiff and creaky and the fabric is very faded and stained. I checked the Maclaren website but they don't have any cleaning tips, only parts for reordering. I even asked the Maclaren rep at the recent Lullaby Lane special and she didn't even know how to clean them. Does anyone have any cleaning suggestions or experience maintaining this kind or similar stroller?

I have put the seat cover in the washing machine, no problem. The canopy you have to sponge clean by hand because it does not come off. You can order a new seat cover or a new canopy if they are really bad.

I have an umbrella stroller that says to spot clean and it needed a serious cleaning from build-up of "stroller snacks." I took it outside and hosed it down and then used a scrub brush and a bucket of diluted dawn dish soap to get it clean. It worked fine, with no adverse affects to the fabric.

As for the wheels, my husband has solved wheel problems on several of our strollers. On one of my strollers, the swivel wheels just push in on a pin. With that stroller, my husband pulled out the wheels, hosed them down and then sprayed with silicone spray. I had never felt the stroller push so smooth! For our umbrella stroller (a chicco c6), the wheels didn't seem to come out, so my husband hosed them off as best he could and then sprayed the silicone spray around the swivels and axles of the wheels. It worked great, too.

Good luck!

I had a stroller that needed serious washing too. What I did was use a screw driver to help me to take off all the fabric pieces. Then I put them all in the washer on the gentle cycle. (The tag said to spot clean, and there were plastic support pieces inside the fabric, but I did it anyway.) Then hung them to dry. In the meantime, I wiped down the rest of the stroller. Then put it all back together and it looked great again. Hope you find something that works for you.

FYI, I was recently looking at eaning/maintenance info on Maclaren's website and here's what they have in FAQs about the wheels:

"First, be sure that there isn’t any dirt build up in the wheels of your buggy. A silicone spray can be used to lubricate the wheels but be sure to use it in a well-ventilated area. WD-40 is a good lubricant but it must be used very sparingly, because it has a tendency to attract dirt that accumulates in the wheel housings. We have found the best and easiest lubricant to use is spray furniture polish. Be sure you spray between the wheel housings and rotate the wheels and swivel assemblies."

I think someone else already mentioned, but if the wheels (or fabric) are really bad, you can also replace them. :)

Also, Maclaren has the instruction manuals for all of their strollers posted online. The one for the XT would not load, but assuming it is pretty similar to the Techno XLR, here is the link to that manual: http://www.maclarenbaby.com/globalAssets/pdfs/US/techno_x...

Hello, I'm not sur eif your stroller is any special kind of fabric, but I recieved from my sis. her 2 year old double stroller she bought brand new.. I took off all the covers, and threw them in a load of reg. laundry soap, & Oxy clean, & let it set for 30 min. then turned on the washer & let the water stir up a bit for 5 min. then let it set for a while longer.. it got the stains out, then I got clothes dye, & put it back in the washer w/ the dye, just follwed the bottle directions, & dyed it a pretty blue, from the faded green..

If you can't remove the peices, then maby just hose it down, wash it w/ a rag dip in a bucket of laundry soap water, and wash it down good? Then just hose it off again, then let dry in the shade while ot so sun doesn't fade it out more?! Hope all works out.. :)

I can't help you with the fabric but on the wheels, if you aren't handy with tools, you can make a mixture of dish soap and water and let the wheels of the stroller sit in this mixture in a bucket. That worked for me.

Hi. I have a MaClaren Techno XT and I love it. The seat is WASHABLE. It comes off the frame and can be placed in the washer and air dried. I have done this several times. Just checked the website and it says the seat is washable. I was not able to download the insturctions but am sure if you can't figure it out a call to MacClaren would help 1 877 442 4622. The top cover/canopy would need to be spot cleaned. I bet a little 3 in 1 oil would help the stiff wheels. Happy strolling.
