Stretch Marks! - Keokuk,IA

I gave birth to my son about 8 weeks ago and I have dark purple looking stretch marks on my tummy, hips, and slightly going around to my back. I did use Palmer's Cocoa Butter while I was pregnant and it did work until about the 8th month. I tried it after giving birth and it hasn't worked with making them any lighter. I've been using Mederma (skin treatment for scars) and so far it has maybe made them a tad-bit lighter (some days they look lighter.. some days they don't). I'm wondering if anyone knows any products that I could try? Also, I just started tanning for a formal event in April. I never usually tan and I only will for about a month. Does that do anything to the scars?

I've been doing pretty well with the whole 'getting back to my old body' thing so far... so getting rid of these stretch marks, or at least making them lighter, would be icing on the cake! Thanks!

Stretch marks never really go away, but they will lighten and fade over time on their own. You can speed up the healing process by using Inkomfe Skin Repair w/ MLE. I stand firmly by their products and if you would like, I can even send you a sample. Contact me and I'll send one right over!

There is nothing that will get rid of stretch marks for good. When you loose weight they will turn white. go to the drug store and buy vitamin E oil thats all it is vitamin E in a oil form rub that on your stretch marks it will not completely get rid of them but oh does it make it look like it does. try it and see for your self It might take a few months to see a differents.

Hello L.,
Have you tried Mary Kay products? They have a Visibly fit body lotion and a cellu-shape system that might work for you. If you don't have a consultant you can find one on the main website marykay.com. As far as the tanning goes I do not know the affect of that on stretch marks but think of them as love marks as proof that you gave life!
Good luck to you.

keep using the cocoa butter but also try a body scrub on the area it will help with the texture of the skin in that area.

Hi L.,

I am a mother of three daughters. My youngest being 2 in April. I have been using the RE9 Body serum and Body lotion with Arbonne International. It minimizes and also helps put elasticity back in your skin. Works like a charm. The best thing is the product is plant based and natural. You can find it at arbonne.com good luck!

Don't tan!!! As with any type of scars and stretch marks you should avoid sunlight and tanning for at least a year. If you already started the tanning the damage may be done. Sorry!!

I got a lot of stretch marks with my son. I did nothing to treat them after he was born and I'd estimate they took about a year to fade. But unfortunately, they will never go away. I sure wish they would!

What I've been told about Stretch marks is...if you're prone to getting them, no products will make your body escape them. They do lighten with time...I have some too, but after 4 years, they are my skin color again. (Not sure when they turned back to the normal color, but I know that right away, they were dark purple like you described.) Apparenty, once you have the stretch marks, they're really no way to rid yourself of them. The skin doesn't just grow back together. But, you can tighten the skin by doing major Ab excersizes to reduce the flab.

I just realized I didn't comment on the tanning thing. I've been told by doctors that you should use extra sunscreen on new scars/incisions that will be exposed to sun or cover them up completely or the new skin will turn purple as the sun will burn the new skin. Don't know if stretch marks are the same as scars, but could be theoretically. I do know that you can't use an OTC sunscreen in a tanning booth (I used to work at a salon and worked at another company that sold products for tanning beds, like beds, bulbs, lotions, etc.) The only sunscreen is to not go in a booth or cover the area you don't want tanned.

L.,
I feel your pain. My doctor was even surprised at how many I had. There is no real product that will take them away. The ads say they will, but none are true, unfortunately. As for tanning, stretch marks don't tan! I know! The rest of the skin will tan but they won't. But what I did (for my wedding, so I really needed it to work!) was that I got a spray tan. It covers the strech marks really well! Hope this helps!
