I have been dealing with very stressful situations lately and I guess my stress level is really high. Today I started feeling some pulsing sensations in my lower teeth (now it feels like pressure and sensitiveness) and pressure in the ear and for the past half an hr the left side of my face itches terrible. I also have some neck muscle pain (left side) from sleeping in à foul position last night so I am just wondering if all these symptoms can be stress related. As I said I have been dealing with major stress situations and yesterday I was so close to having a panic attack. Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

The itching went away after 20-30 minutes, as I took a zyrtec. I tend to believe it was stress related as some doctors say that stress can trigger allergy like symptoms or make the existing allergies worse. And yes, sinus issues can make the face tingle, itch and even go numb! Thanks everyone!

Totally could be teeth clenching or grinding - especially if you wake up with it. I have had that and my neck wouldn't turn to one side. Your dentist can tell by looking at your teeth if you need a bite plate/mouth guard.

However, just to mention - I have symptoms as you describe this week because I've caught a horrible sinus infection and cold. My right side of face is tingly and itchy as if I had allergies. My ear if full and my teeth hurt to clench. That's being caused by sinus pressure. I don't have a runny nose - but I've had this before so went in and sure enough ...

It's going around here. So keep an eye on it. If it gets worse, just be sure you don't have an infection.

When people are very stressed, they often clench their jaw, with or without grinding the teeth. This causes TMJ - temporo-mandibular jaw syndrome. That can certainly cause sensitivity in the teeth and gums, cause the muscles in the jaw to spasm, refer pain up into the temple and around the ear, and generally cause some irritation in the nerves of the face. Some people get headaches too - the pain can go all the way up to the top of the head. There are exercises you can do to try to lessen that tension - you can find them on line or from your dentist who can probably email you some photos of what to do. If it doesn't go away, the dentist can fit you for a special mouth guard to wear at night or even during the day if you need to - basically they protect the surface of the teeth from the grinding, and they provide a spacer to separate the upper and lower jaw to force you to relax those muscles.

Sorry you have so much stress. It's good that you're aware of it. Do try to get some help for these pressures in your life.

Sounds like you my be grinding your teeth in your sleep, which is usually stress related. The neck pain can certainly be stress related due to tension. The itching in the face could be a cold sore developing? That often happens when one is stressed. It may be worth a trip to the doctor. Get a mouth guard for sleeping and go for a good massage. If it is the start of a cold sore get some acyclovir cream on it asap. Take a mental health day and relax if you can.
