My sister had a baby this weekend so my mother-in-law kept our little ones until Saturday afternoon She apparently started feeling bad Saturday night. My father-in-law just called to say she has strep throat. Ugh. I called the pediatrician to find out what the chances are thay they might catch it and what I should look for. Haven't heard back yet.
Any thoughts from you guys? I'm not quite sure what to do. My husband and I are washing sheets and sanitizing as we speak.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your responses. So far so good. I asked my mom and apparently I was pretty susceptible to strep and had my tonsils out at a young age. I'm just going to continue to keep an eye on them.
Thanks again!

symptoms are a high fever usually over 101, suddenly eating less, even their favorite foods, tummy aches, sometime vommiting, a strawberry tongue, fatigue.

And it is a big myth that babies can't get strep...trust me I know from personal experience my youngest was 3 months old when he caught strep from his brother, and I have seen it in other kids as well I am an RN

Hi A.,

Few clues your babies can have strep throat, high fever,if they throw up for no reason or they are gaging a lot.,sometimes cold -like symptoms too.
I hope this helps a little till you heard from your doc,and of course I hope your little ones don't get it.

A.,

As far as I know about strep, once they are exposed, they are exposed. It usually starts with a fever. My daughter had a fever for two days and a headach. Then my other daughter got it and had the same signs. I don't think there is much a can do once they have been around someone with strep. Once they have been exposed you just have to watch for the fever or even just a headach. My one daughter also had the runny nose and hives. So there are many different symptoms. But don't stress out too much about your house. Just spray down with lysol and wash hands. That is about all you can do. I know my one daughter had it and within one week the other had it. So i think it spreads pretty fase once they have been exposed to it. So just keep an eye out for a fever and their head hurting. I hope this helps. Sorry if it is not much, but this is just how I handled my girls with it. but once they are one the medicine, life is good! I just hope they don't get it! Good luck!!

Really there isn't much you can do at this point. If they are going to get it they will! Hopefully not for your sake. Just watch for signs like poor appetite, not drinking much, cranky and definitely fever. If you think maybe they have some of these symptoms see if you can see in their mouths b/c you will notice how red and raw it looks in the back of the throat and might even see sores. I wish I could be more helpful but you will get through this. My daughter seems to catch everything and I panic every time but we get through it! Good Luck!

Well it is Ok to get things clean, but you really don't get it like that. Take extra vitamin C and lots of liquids and plenty of rest to keep your immune systems up.

Hi A.,

As with any other illness, universal precautions such as hand washing and avoid sharing cups and utensils is likely to prevent the spread of strep throat. However, according to medical literature, there has never ever been a documented case of Rheumatic Fever (caused by strep throat) in any child younger than age 2 even if they have tested positive for strep. I wouldn't worry much about it, and of course, if they get sick, take them to the pediatrician or family doctor and make sure they are hydrated and have no major complications. I hope this helps!

i'm surprised nobody mentioned this...i have had strep more times than i can count...for some reason i was ridiculously succeptible to it when i was a kid...and the sure sign is white spots on the tonsils. just shine a flashlight in there, you will see the white spots if they're there. good luck...i hope they don't get it.
