Hi Moms! My husband and I were thinking of going to Weirs Beach in NH this summer with our soon-to-be 2 year old. Thanks to Mamapedia, i just learned about Storyland! Sounds like a great place!!! Is it a one or two day kind of place? We might be getting use of a timeshare, so we're trying to decide if we should stay at Weirs Beach or look for some place closer to StoryLand if it's a two day kind of place. According to Mapquest, Weirs Beach is about an hour from Glen, NH. Anything anyone can tell me about it would be much appreciated. From what I've already seen here, though, it sounds ideal for a two-year old. Also, anything else in the area that we should see?? If we use the timeshare, it will be for six days, so we'll have time to do a few things. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your great advice about Weirs Beach and StoryLand!! We actually didn't get the time-share, but we went up for about five days last week anyway, and it was great!!! We really enjoyed StoryLand - we arrived about 10:30 and stayed until they kicked us out!! I loved that my 2 year old could ride almost all the rides (even the tilt-a-whirl and things like that!!). She had a lot of fun. And Weirs Beach was great. It was a little like stepping back in time :-) We walked on the Boardwalk, went to the Beach, spent some time at FunSpot (I was surprised at how much she could do there, too!), took the train and boat ride - it was a FANTASTIC trip!!! I even made a stop at Kellerhaus (left my husband playing Donkey Kong II at FunSpot and took my daughter to the ice cream buffet!!), so thanks to the mom that mentioned that little treat, as well. I would love to go back. Thanks again for telling me about this great place!

In my humble opinion there isn't a lot for a 2 yr old to do in Weirs so I would just go to Storyland.

Storyland is awesome! Enjoy!
If you arrive after 3pm the first day you can come back for the full second day on the same pass (free!) I believe they also have a rain policy! Easily 2 days' worth of fun in there!!

It is a 2 day kind of place if you don't want to rush. The best way to do it is to go in after 3 PM one day. You will pay full price, but they give you a free pass to return another day. Then go back the next day and get to finish what you didn't get to on the first day. Enjoy it is a magical place for kids and it immaculately clean!!

You should look into Santas Village too, the kids tend to love that place you can feed reindeer and their is alot of age appropiate rides for a 2 year old. I have been going there since I was little and now I take my boys there. Then there is Clarks trading post where their are bear shows and a train ride its a lot of fun too. I hope you have a great NH vacation.

We love Story Land. FYI cost is about $23 per person but I think your little one may still be free, I forget what the cut off is. Most rides are great for that age & parents ride with the kids. I think there are only about 5 rides that would not be appropriate due to taller height restrictions. My son is 6 and we started going when he was 2 and he can't wait to go again this year. If you child likes water be sure to dress him/her in a bathing suit, t-shirt & water shoes for the park as they have a run thru fountain that the kids love & they get soaked. Food is a bit expensive but I think you can bring your own also. We usually stay at the Story Book Inn just down the street and I have always gone for just the one day - open to close of park. We arive the day before and just hang out in the pool at the hotel, go for dinner & get to be early. If you go in after a certian time on one day and pay full price you do get a full day pass for another day (can be used next day) we have never taken advantage of this by might this year since he is getting older now.

We stayed in Bartelt at our time share because it was close to story land and about an hour from Santa's Village. If you celebrate Christmas, you child will love it! DH took our son when he was 2, and we returned this summer when he was three and the baby was one. If there is a pool at your timeshare, plan a few days just laying low there. If you go to story land late afternoon (3pm? check) you can get free admission for another day, which is why we wanted to stay close by. We spent a long weekend and went to Story Land our first day for a few hours in the late afternoon, spent a day at the resort, then spent a day at Santa's village, then went back to Story Land on our last day.

One of the great things about Story land is you can go after 2 or 3pm pay full price then they give you a coupon to come back whenever for a full day. This is what we have done, after nap time go do the late afternoon 1/2 of the day adn come back the next morning and stay until nap time. In my opinion, it make the trip a bit more relaxing and not as exhausting as trying to fit it all in, in one day. We did Clarks trading post last year for hte first time and it was GREAT!

I brought my 2 year old girl last year, and we made it through most of it in a day,
I think two days would be too much, but it all depends on your childs energy, I know mine petered out in the afternoon(3ish), but at that point we had made it through most, might have skipped a couple of the shows..and their will be some rides that the child will not be able to ride at this age. **Just a reminder this is close to North Conway, shopping outlets, and Attitash , Santas Village is also close...
I have stayed at a time share just near Attitash, can't remember the name, but it was really nice....
Hope you have fun...

Another fun trip to take if you're in the area is to the "Castle in the Clouds." It would be more for the adults, though, as I'm sure your 2 year old wouldn't appreciate it at that age. It's a beautiful place, though and definitely worth checking out. My family vacationed in the Laconia and Weirs Beach area for over 25 years. As a child I looked forward to our vacation there all year long (we always went the last weekend in July - the first weekend in August). My favorite thing to do was go to FunSpot (arcade, go karts, etc) and to Weirs Beach Water Slide. Have Fun!!

I'm sure your 2 year old would really enjoy Story Land. We took our daughter there last year for the first time (she was 3) and she LOVED it! They have a deal where guests may enter the park during the last 3 hours of any day (after 3pm in July & August or after 2pm in the other months), purchase full admission, and receive a free pass to come back the next day, or any other day in the season. We did that and it worked out well. We stayed at a timeshare (Pllard Brook) which is on the other end of the Kancamangus highway (right across from Loon Mtn) and we visited Clarks trading post, which was a fun time too.

The Weirs Beach area on Winnepesaukee is centrally located and has not only the beach, but the boardwalk area with shops and arcades, a scenic train ride, several different boat tours, a drive in, waterslide area, and many restaurants. A lot of this area would be great for older children and adults. Storyland is wonderful for young children. There is a lot to do and would be enjoyed by the whole family. It has expanded, but can be done in one day. A short distance away from Weirs in Holderness there is a Natural Science Museum. If you go up Route 93 there is the Whales Tale, an amusement park, Clark's Trading Post with trained bears, the Hobo Train, and more in Franconia Notch, the Flume, the Basin (free), etc, Loon Mountain and Canon Mountain provide Gondola Rides up the mountains which are great. In Woodstock NH there is the Lost River and further North on 93 a short way you will find Santa's Village and Six Gun City. Santa's Village is perfect for your 2 year old. Lots to do in the White Mountains and Weirs is a good central point to stay. Enjoy!

We went to Storyland last summer and loved it (our kids were 3.5 and 1.5 at the time). I agree that one day would be sufficient, though. Check out Jackson Falls a little north of there for a fun free picnic spot. The cascading waterfalls are really fun to explore. My kids had a great time there, and we could have easily spent a couple of hours. If you enjoy hiking, there are also some nice hikes (Diana's Baths is an easy .5 mile walk to a waterfall, although Jackson Falls is better, and a little warmer).

You need a little more than a day at Story land I think but not really 2 days. If you arrive after 2 they give you a free pass for the following day so you don't have to pay twice. Santas Villag is about an hour away from Story Land. It's a really cute place. It might be better for age 4 + though. Their Brochures don't do it justice. All of the trains in that area are a lot of fun. There is one in Downtown N.Conway and a HObo train in Jackson. Have a great trip!! your 2 year old will love it. I'd bring a picnic to Stooryland the foods not so great.

I work in Lincoln, NH right in the middle of the White Mountains so I am extremely familiar with the area and the attractions around. Storyland is perfect for your 2 year old. My daughter is 29 months and loved it last summer. One day will be enough. I'm not sure how much driving, etc. you want to do but in the Lincoln area there is also Clark's Trading Post, Franconia Notch State Park (Cannon Mountain Tramway, The Flume, The basin). Loon Mountain is close by, Whale's Tale Waterpark (although that is probably to "old" for your toddler). There is also Santa's Village. There really is a lot to do in the area. Check out www.lincolnwoodstock.com, it's the Chamber of commerce website. Also, google the chamber site for the North Conway area. Feel free to message me for more info!

Storyland is a wonderful, magical place and for a 2 year old, and one day would be enough time to do the things there. If your children were a little older, you could easily do 2 days there since there's things that kids would like to do over and over again, but otherwise, its really a 1-day place. There's lots of other things to do in the area like Santa's Village (which is a cool place, too!). Check out the area info and local attractions (loads of things). North Conway is nearby as well, and there's lots to do there as well (and plenty of GREAT shopping). Have fun!!!

here's the coolest thing about Storyland - if you get there after 3pm (check that time with them in case it's changed), then you come in the next day for free - so you're getting 2 days for the price of one - and with little kids, you want to have the freedom to leave when they are done without worrying about how much you paid for it

so, i recommend you stay overnight - there isn't a whole lot right nearby - there's a campground and an old best western that I don't recommend - I think most of the timeshare places would be about 20 -30 min away
