My stomach has been hurting like crazy. I have "episodes" where my stomach is hurting so bad- my tummy gets hard like a rock, I have weird BM, throw up and then if it gets really bad I'm will sorta of pass out for a few seconds and have a cold sweat. My mother and grandmother had thier gallbadder taken out- Do you think that's what's happening to me. As I said I have episodes of my stomach hurting for a few days then almost like nothing it will go away and I forget about it and don't go to the doctor b/c I feel fine.
So what do ya'll think????
Thanks to all of ya'll for taking time out to answer

So What Happened?

5-8-07 Thank you ladies for your comments.
I went to the doctor today and she has schedule an Ultrasound on Sat @8am so will see what turns up.
She tells me it's either gallstones or IBS.
Again thanks for wonderful support.

Had my gallbadder remover yesterday. I'm doing well just a bit stiff and in a pain. Hopefully I'll be better soon.

I would definitely see a doctor soon! It could very well be gallstones; a couple of my family members had "some" of those symptoms and had their gallbladder removed. They are great now! Let everyone know once you've found out the problem. Good luck to you and hope everything is okay.

Well, I had mine taken out last year and my husband got his taken out a few months before that. The pain was right under the ribcage on the right side and felt as if it pierced through to my back. There was nausea/vomiting, kinda diarrhea-like BMs...sound familiar? You really should see the doctor or go to the ER when you have this pain. I hope this helps.

The best time to go to the Dr or ER is when you are experiencing the symptoms. It sounds like you have a partial bowel obstruction or some other serious problem. Sometimes it can't be diagnosed unless you are having the symptoms at the time of xrays/other diagnostic tests. I would definately go asap because if you are losing consciousness it is serious and you don't want to leave your kids at their ages trying to wake you or something more serious. You may even have an anurysm which if it is abdominal and it bursts you will probably not make it to the phone to get help before you bleed internally. I am not trying to scare you but these sound like serious symptoms. My sister had similar symptoms 8 years ago and she passed out just outside her dr office and nearly died from complications of Chron's disease (an autoimmune disease that destroys your small intestine). She was in ICU for 1 week kept in medicine induced coma to speed healing and had to be on major IV antibiotics for several weeks due to the infection in her abdomen. If you were a member of my family I would pack you up, put you in the car and take you myself to the Dr at the very least. I know it may not be convenient but how inconvenient would it be to be hospitalized for 4-6 weeks or worst case scenario leave your three children wishing their mom had just gotten her tummy checked out? You owe it to the ones you love to take care of yourself as well as them. Let me know how it goes. I almost lost my sister. We don't always see eye to eye but I would never have met my two beautiful nieces she now has if she would have ignored her symptoms and it was almost too late as it was.

Yes, I believe it's your gallbladder. My mother and my aunt had their gallbladder removed. My aunt almost died because they kept trying to tell her it was just heartburn. She ended up in the hospital for a month or two because the poison spread in her body from waiting so long. The gallbladder can be a very serious thing to mess with, so don't keep putting it off. You better get yourself to the hospital or a doctor quick. The doctors also tried to tell my mom it was just heartburn, but after 3 trips to the emergency room she demanded that her gallbladder be checked, and sure enough she was right. Be sure and demand that your gallbladder be checked. Don't let them give you the run around!!

Wow. I'm no medical doctor, but I do know that what you are describing isn't good. There are so many different things it could be. Some possibilities are no big deal, while others could be fatal. I would make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible, and if it happens again before then, call for an ambulance immediately. Like another has already said, it would be better to rule out something simple before your children have to remember how to call 9-1-1!!!!

Hi Leticia,

It may be gallstones, you should really go to the doctor. I started having real bad stomach pain when I was pregnant with my ten year old. They were episodes of horrible pain and naseau, the pain was at the top of my stomach and would last anywhere from 5 minutes to five hours in the beginning. First the pain would come every few months then every month to every few days and then I finally went to the doctor. Not only did I have a **** load of gallstones but I had two tumors in my pancreas. I credit my life to those gallstones (well I credit my life to God and know that he sent me the pain as a big warning) and if I would have waited any longer to go to the doctor then I may not be here with my three beautiful rugrats. There is always a reason for pain or illness and we need to listen, may be something very small or may be something very big...so I would just go see a doc! Hang in there, good luck!

I think you should see your doctor. You may just have IBS, Irritable (sp) Bowel Syndrome but what if those are symptoms of something serious. You really should make an appointment with your doctor and find out. Don't play around with your health. Your children need you. Hope you feel better soon.

God Bless,
Chris

Keep a food diary and note details about your "weird" BMs for a few days. In other words, anticipate what questions your doctor will ask. How soon after eating do these episodes begin? Do you drink water throughout the day? Are you eating diet foods with sweeteners (maybe you don't tolerate them well) or other additives that can cause intestinal problems? Are you getting enough fiber?

See your doctor soon though!

I had a massive gallbladder attack when I was 17 and had it removed. I was doubled over in pain and felt like I could not breath. I never had any problems until that time. Does it happen at specific times. But I know alot of people who had lingering pain. Other than the hurtng for days it almost sounds like "dumping syndrome". I'm not a doctor of course, so I would just suggest seeing one ASAP!

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

(PS. Alot of doctors use the "Four F's" in diagnosing gallbladder issues initially- Fat (sorry...it does sound mean!), Forty (and over), Female, and Fertile. When I was seventeen I weighed 90lbs....so I don't think this is a great diagnostic scale!!!)

Have you explored the possiblity of a food allergy? Especially allergies to wheat, but the 3 main problem causers are milk, eggs, wheat and then one more glutens which is a by product of wheat and other grains. Because all these items can be found in so many processed foods many people who are allergic do not even realize that they have an allergy until they get tested for food allergies. And I'm going to bet that several people just don't think that they can have food allergies. But the symtoms that you describe tell me that it has something to do with your digestive system. If you do not want to go in and get tested then you might try elinating one food item for an entire week and see how this makes you feel. The key is you have to eliminate them completely, and let me tell you wheat can be hard bc wheat is in everything. And when we say milk we are also talking about all milk byproducts, yoguart, cheeses, creams, butter, ect. Good luck.

Leticia,

It sounds like it may be gallstones. I had that last year in November. My pain would start out like a hard pressure in my stomach and then I would force myself to vomit. And I would feel better. My suggestion would be to see a doctor right away. I ended up in the hospital for a week because my gallstones had infected my pancreas and almost my liver! I ended having gallbladder surgery to remove my gallbladder altogether.

Does it act up during times of stress? If so it might be Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It can go either way. Diareah or constipation. Check your sypmtoms and go to your doctor. Hope you feel better.

I had similar problems like you say except my tummy would not get hard like a rock. I would also have my stomach hurt and then I would have a BM right away and I would sweat and feel like fainting. I feel it for a couple of minutes and then all the hurting would stop. I didn't think much of it after a while /c I thought I might have ate something bad, but then one day at work I had a terrible pain in my stomach that I could even breath. I asked a friend to drive me to the doctor and sure then they ran some blood test and discovered I had stones in my gull bladder that had been building up for a while. I should have gotten myself checked as soon as I had felt the pain maybe I wouldn't have to had had my gull bladder removed. My doctor said I had so many. And I figured it could have been b/c I had them pains just about every other day and didn't think much of it /c they would go away after a couple of minutes. My family has also had these problems. The doctor said it is hereditary. Lety, I suggest you go get yourself check before you have a terrible pain like I did. I'm serious it was a horrible pain that I was even throwing up and I couldn't breath, it was worst then having a baby. I felt like I was just going to pass out. My co-workers were all freaked out and very worried. Please go get yourself checked up.

You should really see a Doctor before it gets worse. i have Ulcerative Colitis which is a disease that affects the colon. I t has caused me several hospital stays. Your symptoms are similar to mine I waited until I was hospitalized to get help. Like you the pain would come and go. Here is a website were you can compare your symptoms www.emedicinehealth.com/colitis/article_em.htm

There are so many IB that you should really talk to a doctor it could be a serious condition

I had serious stomach pains that came and went for two years. It would get so bad that I would just lie in the floor. Right before I went to the hospital with it and then into emergency surgery my husband came home and I had crawled to the fridge and was just handing things to my daughter to eat cause I couldn't stand up to feed her. Turns out my appendix was bad and I had two huge cysts on my ovaries that had hardened (most of the pain seemed to be when I was supposed to be ovulating). My husband also had serious pain about a year later and rushed him in and he had gang green in his pancreas and was very close to dying, he had been having stomach pains for a while just wouldn't go to the dr. I'm telling you this cause in a years time both my husband and I were rushed into emergency surgeries in the middle of the night and it is not nice, so it is best to go in and explain the symptoms and get checked. I know though I hate going to the dr. and that was why I kept putting it off. On the bright side of it I was back on my feet in 2 days and back working (as a waitress at the time) in 4. The first table I had back happened to be the anesthesiologist who recognized me and chewed me out. It took my husband over 2 weeks though.

Seriously though, the midnight surgeries are not fun and are a whole lot more expensive than a simple office visit to rule out minor things. The gall bladder deals with bile and I think if something is wrong with it you may start passing a black slimy substance. But I wouldn't hold me to that one, might want to go look it up on WebMd just to get an idea of what the symptoms are for gall bladder problems.

I couldnt get comfortable and It was so bad I had to go to the ER, it was my gaul bladder. you may want to have your MD give you an ultrasound. I know of several people who have had similar symptoms that ended up having gallstones, so you best get it checked out. I have heard that it's difficult to diagnose, but since there's a history, maybe that makes a difference? Either way, I hope you figure out what's wrong and feel better soon!
