I had a D&C exactly one week ago today. I had a little bleeding for a few days after but it's actually getting worse, not less. Normal? Not normal? My period isn't supposed to start until around the 14th. I have a follow up appt with my GYN on Thursday of this week.

Thanks in advance for any info.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I contacted my doctor this morning and she is not concerned. I did not have a miscarriage nor was I pregnant recently. I had some thickening of the lining and Dr. wanted to do a biopsy, scope and check a fibroid that I have developed. I guess I'll know more on Thursday. :) Thanks for all the replies.

You might want to check with the Dr. and see if that is normal or not to ease your mind. Keep us posted.

I would check it out right away - I once hemorrhaged from a D & C and was put on an IV immediately. Funny thing is, I don't recall bleeding afterwards for very long. It never hurts to be cautious!

Sounds like you got a period after the dnc. Your periods will not be the same after you have had a pregnancy nor a misscarage.

I just had a D&C April 21st and had the same thing. The second week I was bleeding like I was having a really severe period. The doctor said it was normal. I was freaking out trying to figure out how I could bleed like that after they had just scraped everything out of me, but I guess that is just the way it is. Then I remembered back to when I had one in 1991, and I think it was the same way back then. I guess it litterally makes you have a period and now you will have a new period start date. Mine changed now. Hope you feel better.

I would say not normal, I had 2 D & Cs and wasn't bleeding at all a week out. I would call your OB and see if they think you should come in sooner than Thursday...though I don't think they really get concerned unless you're soaking a pad an hour. Good luck to you!

Hi P.,
I had a similar experience with my D&C. I had the procedure done and then had some clotting and heavier flow about week after. It slowed and stopped after a reasonable time following that.

I'd suggest making a call to your OBs office, just to be sure it's okay. I wouldn't recommend waiting until Thursday. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Hi P.,

I had a D&C recently as well. My doctor said I would bleed for 5 to 7 days just like a normal period. She also said it should get lighter not heavier. I would call you GYN as soon as you can and tell him/her how much bleeding is occurring.

If you are soaking through maxi pads more frequently than every few hours you should deffinately call. My doc told me that I shouldn't have to use more than one every two hours. I didn't even need one every four hours...I used them more than that simply because I hate the feeling of a wet pad...but I didn't NEED to.

Hope all goes well for you...
