My older son (5) has strep with vomiting. We've never seen him so overcome by fever, and have never had him vomiting before. Rapid test confirmed strep.

Apart from rest, fluids, AB, Tylenol and a bucket close at hand any tips on how to treat and soothe? Also any tips for cleaning/ disinfecting?

We stripped his bed last night, bagged it, and I dropped it off at the laundromat this morning.

Never been one to clean with much more than murphys or mr clean. Should I hit the door knobs/ light plates etc with Lysol?

Our younger son is crawling/ cruising and has his hands and mouth on everything.

What can I do next?

oooh poor boy!!

with 4 boys? I can tell you how fast things spread if you don't get on top of it.

Change the tooth brush.
Change the towels in the bathroom. Wash them in hot water. Dry in HOT temp.
Wash the pillow or replace it. I know it's expensive to replace but the germs are still there.

Clorox or disinfect (Lysol, whatever is a disinfectant - lemon juice works well too) all door knobs, toilets, sinks, anything he's touched. I put on a pair of gloves and just start scrubbing when the first one gets sick. When it moves through a family of six? It's just not fun.

My older son and I had strep in February. He had sore throat and vomiting, I just had chills and figured I was getting the flu. Lots of rest and fluids, popsicles help with the throat pain. We wiped things down with Lysol wipes and cleaned with Lysol also. The doc told us to change our toothbrushes in 3-4 days when the meds would be working. For the fever, lots of cool cloths will help keep him comfortable. A friend of mine bought those gel cloths when she had the flu last year. When you wet them, they are cool right away even if the water is room temp.

Oh, boy. Keep a cool washcloth handy to put on his forehead. It'll help bring his body temp down. You can also put a wet washcloth in the freezer for an hour or so for him to suck on. Small amount of cold water will soothe his throat and hopefully won't be enough to upset his tummy. As for disinfecting, do you have an aromatherapy diffuser? I like to put a few drops of Thieves essential oil in my diffuser and let it run throughout the day. I also like to diffuse tea tree oil with lemon oil. Wash your little guy's hands as often as possible or just keep some hand wipes close by to quickly wipe his hands and face frequently. For the grown ups in the house, I'd start taking Zinc to boost your immune system.

after one family member gets something contageous i spray everything down with straight vinegar. i do it the second i know everyone is sleeping for the night. i mist it on good: on the lower walls, light switches, the floors, carpets, doorknobs and doors, the furniture, the toys, everything gets a mist of vinegar. and i leave it to dry. (we did this in the babies and toddler rooms of a childcare center i worked at and had the least amount of illnesses going around) i clean vomit by absorbing the liquid with baking soda (takes the smell away) then i shop vac the powder up and spray vinegar and wipe till it stops foaming (due to the reaction of acid on baking soda)

Is he keeping the tylenol down? If he is vomiting and not keeping it down, and the fever is still spiking, you can get FeverAll, which is a suppository version of kids tylenol. Not pleasant, but once the first dose is absorbed and the fever comes down a bit, sometimes the vomiting lets up enough that you can go back to regular oral doses.

I'd wipe down everything I could think of with vinegar and water solution if I were you. It's a decent antibacterial but also not toxic if your LO gets his mouth on whatever you wiped down.

Last time one of ours had strep she ended up in the hospital. She had to use the suction tube thing to suction out her puss and saliva, her throat was too swollen for her spit to go anywhere.

He'll be better by tomorrow because of the antibiotics. The Lysol is a great thing to use on everything. Use it on the bathroom surfaces after he uses it. And you need to wash your hands constantly. Poor baby!!
