Standing in Crib at Nap Time

The original post here is a bit old, but my 8 month old recently started standing in her crib and while it was exciting at first, it has gotten very frustrating! She will not stay down when I put her in her crib to nap. She keeps standing and I keep laying her back down. Maybe that is the issue and I should just let her stand? I worry because she does not yet know how to sit back down and may fall and hit her head or hurt herself. Any tried and true suggestions from other moms?

My daughter stands in her crib also. When she first started, she didn't know how to fall either and for about a week my blood pressure was sky high. She hit her head on everything, but within a few days, she figured it out. Now, if she doesn't lay down to sleep, I just leave her. She plays until she is tired and then puts herself to sleep. Sometimes she loses her paci and cries. I let her cry for a few minutes then I go in and give her the paci back. She is usually ready to sleep by that point.
The next few days will scare you to death but she will learn how to plop down on her bottom and you will feel much better!

Wasn't it fun to discover your baby standing in the crib for the first time? Oh, I loved it! But, I would just leave her alone, and in time, she'll figure it all out. She might not nap as well for a few days/weeks b'c of her new learned talent, but like one of the other mamas said, she'll get tired and lay back down to rest.

Just let her learn to get down by herself. They will learn it will just take a couple of days. My son hit his head one time then started sitting down instead of falling. If you go in her room to put her down she will just get right back up then it becomes a game you don't want to start.

Get a crib tent to keep her safely in the crib and just leave the room. Don't leave toys in the crib with her and she'll get bored and fall asleep. At least that worked for us :) Good luck.

Hi, I would just let her stand in her crib. Let her figure out how to set down. If you think that she is going to fall and hurt herself practice with her when it is not nap time. Try standing her by the coffee table and work with getting up and down. She learned at a really young age to stand in her crib. I would just make sure that your crib is on the lowest level that the bed can go so she can not fall out of it. But I would not worry to much about it. You have the walking stage to go through and there is a lot of falling in that. They are stronger that you think. I promise you she will be just fine. Best of wished to you.

Mine did that, and still does (he is 15mths). He did eventually learn to plop down to sit. Now he will sometimes spend 1/2 hour before or after his nap talking to himself. I think he loves the quiet time to himself (brother-5 and sister-6 can be alot sometimes). It does take away from the time that they are supposed to be sleeping- especially if you have to get somewhere by a certain time. I thinks its fine. It also a fairly safe way for them to practice walking and holding on to something.
