Stand Mixer

I've been looking for a stand mixer for months if not years. I am thinking about getting a kitchenaid one. But now I am confused between the 5Qt Artisan, 5 Qt Professional, or the 6Qt professional. One is easy to use because of the tilting style. The other is maybe more durable because of bigger power and sturdier. The 6 Qt having bigger bowl and of course more power.
I use to make cakes with 30 eggs, so I need the bowl capacity. I make bread and meatball, so I need the power too. But also just a small batch of cookies, some box mixed cupcakes, brownies, etc. So I need the practicality and the power. Please help... Any input are very welcome.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the inputs. We ended up decided on the Kitchenaid 6Qt Pro. Arrived in 2 days, and love it since then. It survived my meatball and also tried on some other recipes. Haven't try the bread yet... But I have a feeling it will be OK too.
Now the mixer is sitting pretty in my kitchen counter (I really don't expect it will be that heavy. So no way it should be in and out the cabinet) and I am tempted everyday to use it.

I have the 6 qt pro. I have had it for 6 years and love it. I make all the christmas cookies for my husbands family. about 45 batches in one week and it has never let me down the bowl is nice and big although I would actually like a larger one some times. I have to say that it was my favorite shower gift and I leave it out all the time. I really Love it

I have a 6qt professional and love it. I use it for everything to double batches of bread loaf to normal batch of cookies. The only inconvenience I've found with the bowl lift is to remove the bowl you have to remove the beater. It's not usually a big deal but can be a pain. I've never had a tilting one, so I'm not sure how they compare.
Have fun

Not going to be much help here, but my husband is looking for one for my mother in law who makes tortillas. her hands are hurting her. Would you let me know what you get? We keep looking for one that's reasonable and strong. I haven't checked on Craigslist or ebay but might do so. Never know what I'd be getting.

I have an Artisan and have had it for 9 years. It can definitely handle those heavy batters that burned out my other mixer. We have a professional one at church, but I've only used it once. Both seem made to last and easy to use. I think they're definitely worth the money, but I can't help you in the area of size. I'm sure you'll love it, whichever one you choose!

I have had 3 Kitchen Aid mixers. The first one I burned our the motor - double batch of peanut buck eyes. The second one was my mothers (still have it). The third one is the one I use - 6 qts. That extra qt. makes a big difference when you double recipes. i prefer the ones while handles. You might want to get a seperate hand mixer for small batches.

When I still lived at home my mom hand a Sunbeam mixer. I loved that thing. It did a great job on cakes. Unfortunately, I had it too close to the edge of the counter and when its head was titled it did a back flip off the counter.

Hope this helps.

Go for the larger capacity and power. If you use 30 eggs, you'll need it. QVC has In The Kitchen today. They almost always have the Kitchen Aids on. If not, you can go to qvc.com and click on appliances then kitchenaid. You'll find all the models, colors, wattage, prices etc. You'll also get the best prices because they buy products by the thousands and they have their own store and there's no mall overhead. I love mine. Get one that the neck bends if possible.

i have the artisan and love it. we use it mostly for bread and cakes and it's been great. i don't do huge batches of anything,so size hasn't been an issue, but the power has been more than adequate for bread.

I have a 5 qt professional that is as old as I am. (35) Still churns out with the best of them! I agree with other posters about going with the 6 qt due to the size of what you're doing, but the professional has a motor that lasted my MIL's monster pierogi and kolacki making sessions.

Good luck

Hi C.. I think you should go with the 6Qt -- you'll need the extra room to get enough air with the 30 eggs. But when it comes to power, you will find that there are different models of the 6Qt KitchenAid, and you should shop according to power consumption (the watts it uses is directly proportional to the torque of the motor). So...the more watts it uses, the stronger the motor.

One thing to mention: We have the "strongest" KitchenAid 6Qt (I don't remember which model it is) and we love it. However, my hubby makes breads as a hobby and he stripped the gears from using it so much to knead large recipes of sticky bread doughs. (We didn't know if the motor burned out, but it would no longer work.) We were able to find someone to diagnose it and replace the gear for $80. (Now that my hubby knows what happened, he will replace it himself in the future!) It has a plastic gear, which is disappointing, but then found out that if you want a stand mixer that has all metal parts (no plastic), you have to buy commercial-grade mixers that cost thousands of dollars. Nonetheless, I think the KitchenAid 6Qt is the best on the market.

C.,

We inherited my grandmothers 5qt when she passed away about 20 years ago and used it until our son got married 5 years ago and was transferred by the Coast Guard to Alaska, and the mixed went with them and it has moved 2 more times and still works great. Any way when it left I bought my husband the 6qt. professional as he loves to make rye bread and needed the bigger one for that. He loves it!!! It works great and we have never had a problem with it.
