Stains in Carpet Won't Come Out

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to get stains out of carpets? When we moved in there were some really bad stains in the upstairs bedroom. I tried using a carpet machine. The one that sits on the stain and the brushes rotate. All it did was lighten the stain. I was wondering if anyone had any special tips on getting them out? This is in my daughters room and the only other solution is to put a area rug down and I am afraid that she will trip on it. We are renting so putting a new rug in is not an option. The landlord won't replace it. Just told me to try to get it out. Any tips would be great. Thank you for any advice that you can give me to get this clean. By the way not sure what the stain is. Not sure if it was soda or juice or what is was. Thanx

There is a stain remover that works very well. It's called Carbona. I had to order it online since the area stores don't sell it anymore. I've had it remove grease from clothes, the stair carpet gets so dirty. It does clean it well. I've never had it remove color from clothes. They sell a general cleaner and smaller bottles that are numbered from 1-9 and they are for special stains. They website explains it all.

Good Luck

We had some blood stains on our carpet from a sore that wouldn't heal on our cat. Blood easily comes out with peroxide, but it wasn't working. I looked it up online, and Oxyclean did the trick.

I remember seeing the Queen of Clean on Oprah several years ago. She swears she can get any stain out of anything.

One of her tricks for carpet was to treat it with a stain remover (we like Spot Shot in our house), put a cloth (towels are best) over it and then a heavy object that will cause the towel to act like a wick and pull the stain up with the liquid.

We've used that technique countless times with pet stains and kids.

Hope those ideas are helpful.

wow, your landlord sounds like he's kind of a jerk. It's his job to make sure he cleans the place before a new tenant moves in (well technically, the previous tenant should have cleaned it in the first place, but anyway...)...I got 2 words for ya: "SPOT SHOT." That stuff seems to work like a charm. It's worth a try!

Hi---Try this, I use it a lot and it works well. Depending on how large the stain is, I use about a cup of peroxide, add a squirt of Dawn dish detergent, mix it together. Pour it over the stain, making sure it overlaps the edges of the stain. Leave it for 5-7 minutes. Take a dry towel, and blot, don't rub, the area. I take a second towel, place it over the now damp areas, and place all my weight (ball or heel of foot) and grind down to get all the wetness out.I've had good luck with this, hope you do too.

Pour hydrogen peroxide on the stain. The only problem with that is the stain will go away and the area may be lighter than the rest of the carpet depending on how old it is. I say go with the area rug if that happens. We have an area rug on top of our livivng room carpet and the kids have never tripped over it. Good luck!!!!

Hi there. I don't know how to get the stain removed from theh carpet. But I did want to tell you that if you live in NY the landlord is responsible for painting & putting down new carpets each time a new tenant rents from him. This is part of your right as a tenant. You may want to visit your library to do some research & show him in writing that he is to replace the carpet, even if he doesn't want to & that its not your responsibility. There are other things to know as a tenant as well. Like him needing to give you at least 24 hours before just coming over to your apartment for any reason. I hope this helps somewhat.

Hi C.,
So glad to hear that things are better for your daughter.
I just saw your post about the stains. Did you get them out? If not, I may have something that will help. Let me know if you are interested.

Try ammonia...start with it diluted with water and blot, don't saturate.

I like Woolite carpet stain remover the best. Resolve pet stain remover is good too, but not as good as Woolite.

Do you have any idea what caused the stain? Removal is hard if you don't know. Don't use ammonia! It could pull color out of the fibers. Peroxide will work if it is a protein based stain. Your landlord really should have made the PREVIOUS tennent remove the stain not you! IMHO it is his/her responsibility not yours. I would write a letter to him stating that you do not know what caused the stain but upon the landlord's request, you attempted to remove a stain that was already there when you moved in. Say that you will cover the stain with an area rug but fear that someone may trip and fall as a result. Ask if if this is a liability that he is willing to take a risk on. Using the magic Liability word might get results. I fear that if you try various treatments on the rug you could cause more damage (& this landlord probably will try to hold you responsible) so personally, I wouldn't try to remove the stain. Did you take photos before you moved your stuff in? Always take photos of the rental unit before you move in to document existing conditions just in case something like this comes up.
