Mine are no longer toddlers, but when they were I used to swear by a product called 'Totally Toddler'. It was sold by KMart (and, I think, WalMart??) and took out everything from spit-up to formula to ANY food or diaper stains. If nothing else works, TRY IT!!!!! :-D

I have a toddler and a husband who works construction. I keep two buckets in the laundry room - labeled for my husband's sake -one with oxi-clean water and the other with bleach water. I also keep shout (spray and gel stick) and a clorox bleach pen handy. If things are completely covered with mess, they go in a bucket to soak. If it is just a spot or two I grab one of the other things for it.

hi S.,
i love the spray and wash stain stick. it is formulated to treat the clothes and then sit up to a week in the laundry basket with no ill effects. i just keep in in the kids' closet so i can treat the stains before throwing in the basket. i think it works a lot better than the spray.

I haven't really had any luck w/ the stain removers either but the Tide To Go stick is AMAZING!! I take it everywhere and use it on everything. My 3 yo daughter isn't really into "getting dirty" so I don't really have to worry about grass stains, however she LOVES dark chocolate.....needless to say, it gets all over her clothes. The Tide stick works PERFECTLY. I keep them everywhere.....my purse, the cars, and by the washer.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I really like Dreft spray on stain remover and also Oxy Clean for babies- it a stain remover that can be used as a boost for the whole load or jsut for spots. I usually use the Dreft for spot removing and the Oxy Clean for the whole load. They work great!

I have found that shout works best for me if you get the stain right away and soak it real good. Sometimes when I get a real stubborn stain that wont come out and rewash with dawn dish soap (apply over spot) and it is amazing.

I find that Dreft spray works great for my baby's messes...if it's particularly tough, I soak it in a mixture of Oxyclean (they have a baby version) and water first. I guess the key is to get to the stains as quickly as possible, but this is hard with little ones around!

OXYCLEAN! I LOVE it! For stubborn stains I put fill up the washer tub with really hot water, add the oxyclean and agitate a bit (sometimes it can bleach out a garment if its put full strenght so that's why I like to let it dissolve first), add the clothes and agitate a minute or two more and then just let it sit, the longer the better but it doesn't really work well in cold water so once the water is no longer warm add detergent and wash like normal. I have saved so many clothes this way and I am talking blueberries, blood and mud stains that would never come out with a regular detergent. I started buying it by the box full at Costco but you can get either amll cylanders or larger tubs at Target. Its about $9 for a big tub but it lasts awhile and all you have to do is save 1 or 2 garments and its well worth the money. Also don't be stinging with it, add a full scoop to a small-medium sized laod, less is not more with oxyclean, you have to use enough or it doesn't work as well.
Good luck K

I use totally toddler, you can find it at kmart, a great prewash to get out tough stains. Also, i use zout, it will get most things out. I have used both for years. Having 5 kids i have had my fairshare of laundry. These two are the best in my opinion. Hope it helps.

Zout works well...I know Target has it in a spray bottle and Rainbow/Cub also have it in a squirt type bottle. I think the later works a bit better. Originally it was sold in uniform stores for nurses. It was meant to get out the tough bodily stains such as blood. It also does great on grass and grease, but you have to make sure to rub it in well. Only on occaision does it cause color loss.

I use a stain stick, it's similar to a gluestick but alot bigger. Not sure the name brand but it's white and green and works like a miracle. I also use Tide for our laundry soap and so far haven't had a stain I can't get rid of.

For really BAD stains I use Oxyclean. If my daughter blows out a diaper through to her clothes, or something else. I will wet the garment down, and then lay it out on the counter. I will sprinkle the oxyclean powder over the stain, and let it sit for an extended period of time (over night). It works EVERY time! I've used this same method on other clothes I was going to throw away because I thought they were ruined.

I use OxyClean, the powder. I just mix it in with my laundry detergent before I even start the washer. It works great. I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 3 month old and it takes care of all the stains, even if they are left on there for a couple days. The colors don't fade and the clothes come out looking just like they did before they got stained. We do this for all of our clothes no matter if they are stained or not.

I am a compulsive stain removing fanatic. I first spray with Dreft stain removing spray and let that sit for about 15 mins, then I soak the item in Oxy Clean for Babies. I will sometimes let it soak for a day or two depending on the stain. Good luck

I use the OxyClean spray and the powder to get out a lot of stuff. I also have used Bleach a lot on colored clothes as a last resort and it's worked GREAT! I figure that if I'm going to throw it away anyways I might as well try it and it worked without the fading. I have front loaders so I put it in the bleach dispenser and it mixes with the water good so you don't get the bleached out spots. I've also heard that powdered dishwasher soap works great.
Also, people think I'm crazy but when I know my kids are going to get really dirty I put white clothes on them. White bleaches right out instead of trying to spot clean colored clothes.
Happy Laundry,
J.

as mom to a 3 year old boy, i know stains! :) i've had good luck with both the dreft stain spray (i think you can get it at target now, but i always found it at babies r us) and shout. i usually throw color-safe bleach in every load too for the stains i inevitably miss. we have very, very few clothes that have been ruined because of stains, and i don't always know about or get to the stains to treat them right away.

good luck!

I love the Shout stain remover wipes. They come in packets so you can take them anywhere and they work wonderfully! Also, shout has a stain stick gel thing that has scrubbers on the end. That always worked well fo rme.

Hi S.,

I started using my regular Dreft powder detergent to soak stained clothes when my little guy was still spitting up and blowing out diapers and have continued to use it since (he's three now). I just use warm water and put the detergent on the stain directly, rub it in and let it soak. I'll go back and repeat or agitate the water several times (sometimes over a couple of days). This has saved me from having to purchase other products and has worked fine, although if I forgot the clothes for more than a couple of days (once I left something soaking for almost a week... oops) the color could fade a bit. I've also soaked my husband's and my clothes when stained from grease, blood, grass stains, etc. to wonderful results. ;o) Thanks for asking the question... I found some of the responses to be very helpful too! ;o)

Amway makes an amazing stain remover-it takes out EVERYTHING! Downside is you have to order from someone who sells Amway products. But it comes in an aerosol can and lasts forever. I've been using it for years. Nothing works better.

I have had a lot of luck with both the Oxy cleaner and the environmentally friendly oxygen cleaner you can get from Lakewinds.

I also have another recipe for hefty stain removal, but I only use this once on clothes - it's what I use to get stained clothes "garage sale ready." It works very well, but it's a little rough on the clothes. Doing this too often would definitely wear them out too fast.

1 c Cascade dish deterget
1 C Clorox 2
5 gallons of the hottest water from your tap
Soak overnight, then wash as usual

I got this recipe from The Tightwad Gazette. The author of the Gazette got it from a woman who ran a kids' clothing consignment store.

Do NOT use this on delicate or non-colorfast clothes.

So far I have only had it fail on one out of about 40 articles of clothes. It also faded the design on one t-shirt.

I use OxyClean. I figured after it took BLACK ink out of my new WHITE carpet (and there was ALOT of it) it will work on anything. It saved my carpet (and my marriage!)
