Spring Break Beaches

I know Fall is barely on us, but I'm thinking ahead for spring break :) I'm thinking ahead and trying to come up with a nice beach location for late March. I'm from San Diego originally and the Pacific is so cold in spring...I've been to Florida a couple times on business and don't know a thing about it...Is there a good beach for spring break for kids? Been to Cancun, and its an option too. Hawai'i is soo expensive.

What are some places with nice beaches that aren't an arm and a leg? Where would you go? Thanks for all your suggestions!

We just came back from Singer Island, just north of West Palm Beach. Beautiful!! The water is so warm and gorgeous. Much better than CA, for kids especially. We went snorkeling on Peanut Island which is in the Intercoastal waterway, so you don't have to contend with waves like out on the ocean. And we went kayaking at McCarthur State Park. Perfect for kids! Southwest flies direct and has a good fare to Fort Lauderdale. This is our 3rd vacation in that area with our kids and have loved every one. Fort Lauderdale itself is more of the college party scene for Spring Break, but north of there is better for families. West Palm Beach area is very upscale if you want that for shopping and dining. So far, we have loved the Embassy Suites (right on the water) at Deerfield Beach the best. But have been as far north as the Juno Beach area. It's all great.

Florida beaches are beautiful, but late March can be iffy about if you'll be chilly or not if you're on the panhandle/Gulf or N. Florida Atlantic side. Sometimes it's in the 80s and gorgeous that time of year, and others highs are 60 or 65 and the water is pretty frigid! Of course the further south you go, you'll be in better shape. Below Tampa around Sarasota (Siesta Key particularly) is gorgeous and would be nice that time of year. On the Atlantic side, below Daytona should probably put you in good shape -Coco Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, etc.

SanDestin Florida is a favorite of ours and we are there about once a year.

We love it, it is family friendly, our daughter takes a friend and they have a blast.

We stay at the Hilton SanDestin Golf Resort and Spa. It is in a gated community area and many condos are there as well. Lots of things to do.

Another favorite is Maui and we've done that a couple of times but it is harder to take a friend along for companion with daughter when it is that far away.

Since we have an only shild and she is almost 16, we've always included one of her friends on our trip (our expense) so she has a best bud with her to do things. We've done this in FL about 4 times, Disney once.

Enjoy!! We are already making our plans for SanDestin in March!

I'm from Del Mar originally and so I am a total beach snob and you will probably be surprised when I suggest South Padre Island, TX. The weather is great on the Gulf in the spring, it isn't super expensive, and the water is warm. Have fun!

I just got back from Puerto Vallarta and it was amazing and not too expensive. Let me know if you want the name of the place we stayed.

Clearwater Beach,FL is a must. We go all of the time, and never have been disappionted. Fly into Tampa, 25 min drive. Stay at the Royal North. Spacious and affordable condos. We won't stay anywhere else. Just a short 1/2 block walk to the powdery beaches. Awesome family-friendly night life at the pier. Can't go wrong!
