I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and am experiencing some spotting. It is dark, almost brown in color and not heavy. I am having some light cramping, but nothing that bad. I had this happen with my first pregnancy, and everything turned out ok. Is this normal, or should I be concerned and go to the doctor? Thank you, ladies!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you! I called my doctor, and he said everything was fine, and that it was normal. I have an appt next week, so there wasn't a need for me to rush in today.

I would definitely call the doctor right away. Like you said it could be fine, but it could be something.

I wouldnt take any chances I would at lease leave a message with my doctor and see what he/ she thinks. I had bleeding with my first but not after 5 months. Now I'm having my second and already 4 months and nothing has gone wrong. I Hope the best for you

Generally brown blood is "old blood" that your uterus is getting rid of in the early stages of PG. I agree with all the PPs who recommended calling your doctor, just b/c while bleeding in early pregnancy is common, it's not "normal" (if that makes sense). Chances are everything is fine, but peace of mind means everything in that first trimester.

Incidentally, I had spotting with all three of my children, and actually did NOT with my first pregnancy, which I lost. But as they always say -- every pregnancy is different.

Good luck to you, and congratulations on your coming blessing!!

I had a subchorionic hemorrhage with my daughter. It is common, but can be a problem if it is large. I'd call and get checked out. They can do an ultrasound to measure if that's the issue.

I had this happen. The dr. said that it was my body trying to go through the normal monthly motions. I would try and take it easy, no heavy lifting, and discuss it with your dr. at the first visit.

Call your doctor. Some spotting is normal, but you should get it checked out.

I would take it easy for a day or two and call your doctor if you experience more cramping, the blood turns red in color, or increases in volume. It is most likely an implantation bleed. I had it when I was pregnant with my little girl and it turned out fine.

I had the exact same thing during both my pregnancies and all was OK (well, so far on the 2nd. I'm 14 weeks now). The doc told me a darker color indicates an older bleed (possibly implantation bleed) that is just working itself out. While I think it's common to have some bleeding during the first trimester, I would still encourage you to at least call the doctor. They might want you to have an ultrasound to make sure everything is OK. It also might give you peace of mind to see that everything is in there as it should be at this stage of the game. Good luck to you!!

C.,
Please do NOT take any chances! I had called my doc with light spotting at 11-12 weeks told it is normal for some light spotting, and my baby did not make it. Please go to the doc even if it doesn't seem bad. Best of luck to you!

Bright red is the color you should worry about. Brown or pink spotting is common. It's worth a mention to the doctor on your next visit, but don't stress it unless it turns to heavy cramping or bright red bleeding.
