Spotting and 5 Weeks Pregnant

Hi all,

I have already asked a doctor for an opinion and he said the some spotting is normal during the first trimester. I have two healthy children and during their pregnancies didn't have any bleeding. For some reason, this time, I got what I thought was my period on the correct day to get my period. Then, it stopped a few days later. Five days after that, I began to spot, so I took a pregnancy test. It was positive and to double check, took a second that was positive. I'm still bleeding at times heavily enough to seem like a period, but I don't have any pain or cramping. I did notice this more after exercise. Did anyone else have spotting and/or bleeding during a pregnancy and deliver a healthy baby?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, just took my third pregnancy test today and it's still positive, but I'm still bleeding lightly. The OB/GYN appointment is this week, so I'm expecting to find out more info then. Thanks for your input!

My sister bled with her 3rd pregnancy, and found out she had lost a twin. She went on to have a healthy baby boy.

I bled my first pregnancy. In fact, I thought i had gotten my period....then thought i was miscarrying. Every time exercised, walked, cleaned, I bled. I had placenta previa and ended up on bed rest. The placenta moved and i was able to deliver naturally.

Ive also had a miscarriage. That wasn't spotting or even what id consider normal period. I had lots of cramping and pain although i was 11 weeks along.

Hang in there. Whatever is going to happen will happen....there's nothing you can do. So, don't stress....easier said than done I know.

You're still very, very early along so you may simply have to take a wait and see approach. It's said that 75% or more of pregnancies end in miscarriage, most before around the time you would get your normal period and/or what seems like a slightly late and wonky period. The only way we know otherwise now is these hyper-sensitive home tests.

I personally think it's more likely that you've experienced a chemical pregnancy where your hormones spiked just enough for your body to think it was pregnant when it really wasn't, and now you're dealing with the body behaving as if you were having a miscarriage. There wouldn't be cramping or anything this early on.

I think its 50/50. I read so many cases of people bleeding and having perfectly healthy babies. I had two miscarriages..one at 8 weeks and one at 5. At 5 weeks I kept waiting for the "worst part" to happen. My 8 weeks miscarriage was my first pregnancy, I was doubled over in pain and could not stand upright at one point during the miscarriage. When I miscarried at 5 weeks, I spotted a day, had sharp shooting pains a few times day 2, started to bleed and bled fortwo days and that was it..and it was considered a complete miscarrriage. You are not far enough along at 5 weeks to feel as much pain etc with your loss. I don't think the baby/sac are nearly as large that early. There was no doubt at what I passed at 8 weeks...but at 5, I did not see the evidence if you will. I wish you a healthy baby. Good luck.

I bled almost a regular period for a week with my second pregnancy. I was pretty sure I had miscarried, but no, my crazy hyper demanding cuddly eight-year-old son is impatiently waiting for his sister to come down so we can open advent calendars. All hope is NOT lost!

Only with my second pregnancy did I have this happend. Happened at 8 weeks AND at 12 weeks also. (After 12 weeks I remember thinking 'great I just told everyone and now I'm losing it). But luckily it was all fine as the doc said and I delivered a very healthy 9 and a half pound boy. For mine it was usually a light watery pink color as opposed to a deep red period color. Also it was usually after I had been 'intimate'...so I then avoided that for a while out of fear lol. Honestly, what's going to happen is going to happen and the only thing you can do is try to create a healthy environment and hope for the best! But obviously no one wants to go through that and I definitely understand your concern. Good luck and I'm sure all is fine like your doctor said!

I had spotting with my first and then severe cramping and had to have a DNC. My second pregnancy I had my son with no issues. My third pregnancy my daughter I spotted, and I went full term and had a healthy beautiful little girl. I agree with Michelle, and it my case one pregnancy was fine and one was not. Best of luck to you I will keep you in my prayers!!
