Spilled Millk in Car......

My son's sippy cup was dropped in the car and it leaked soy milk on the floorboard. I have scrubbed it with Resolve, used Kirby Carpet shampoo and have sprayed Febreeze on it, but I cannot get rid of the smell. Does anyone have ANY suggestions? We are going to try shampooing the carpet in that area this weekend but I am not even sure that will help. It is making me crazy though and it smells horrible!! I am open to any advice!!

Thanks!
K.

Eww, stinky!
I love the product "Kids and Pets" (I think it's called).
I got it at Walmart (but you can get it online). You just squirt it on, soak it, let it dry, and smell and stain disappear! Having 2 dogs and a toddler, I go thru bottles of the stuff and it has yet to fail! (Most other products have let me down!)
Good luck!

K.,
We had the same problem and just called a local man that cleaned carpets and he only charged $25 to come out and clean the spot in the car. It never smelled again!

i'd try baking soda. just sprinkle a bunch on, let it sit, and vacuum it up later (after several hours). i did this with a rug that my cat had peed on and it worked.

I don't know if this will help or not...but there is a product they sell at the pet stores called Nature's Miracle. It's meant to clean and deordorize pet stains (urine and vomit). I use it on lots of other stains on my carpet because it works so well. The reason I think it might help you is that it is designed to neutralize natural odors - to make sure a pet doesn't "dirty" that spot again because they can smell it. Does that make sense?

It's worth a try! Good Luck!

I hope you find a solution. This is why I don't allow any dairy products in the car. :)

Hi K.,

Sol U Mel from Melaleuca is great and gets rid of the smell for good. It also cleans and gets rid of any spots that might still be there. I have been a member for over 3 years now and love their products! Check the website and follow the tour to know more about the company and their products.

I don't do the business but will sure recommend and help anybody that wants to use better safer products at wholesale prices like I do.

Good Luck!

You need an enzyme cleanser like "Kids and Pets". I get it at WalMart in the section with the foam rug cleansers, or something they stick it over in the pet section.

You will soak the spot down, then use a towel to blot up all you can...then soak it again and let it evaporate.

It has enzymes that eat away at the bacteria that causes the odors. Once it's gone, the odor is gone.

It's GREAT for cleaning the bathroom while potty training a little boy too. I babysat a little one recently that had terrible aim...and I couldn't seem to find all the places that got sprinkled...LOL

I had spilled milk happen to me in the car as well, and it spoiled and smelled so rotten. All I had was a towel and Lysol 4-in-1 All Purpose Cleaner... that stuff is strong! I scrubbed that into the carpet with the towel and it worked magic! I even found a spot where some candy had melted into the carpet and dried and it even got that out of it too. Never thought of that for carpet before but it works great.

I would try covering the area in baking soda and letting it sit for a day or so and then use a wet sponge or rag and then scrub it and I would then vaccum it. You may have to do it a second time just to make sure. Hope this helps.

I have not tried this myself but I found this on the web, so it may or may not work.
1. Mix one teaspoon of a neutral detergent (a mild
detergent containing no alkalies or bleaches) with a cup
of luke-warm water. Blot.

2. Mix one tablespoon of household ammonia with a half-
cup of water. Blot.

3. Repeat step one. Blot.

4. Sponge with clean water. Blot.

Try sprinkling dry baking soda on it and let sit overnight and vacuum up. If you shampoo, treat the area with white vinegar. This is good for removing smells.

Hope one or both work for you.

I know they are not cheap.. But Car Star is really good at getting a car back to the like new condition.

I would think the bigger concern is how to make sure it doesn't happen again. We moms are notoriously bad about letting the kids eat and drink in the car.

Hi K.,
Get "Nature's Miracle" from your pet store. It takes out everything I've had to use it on, even chocolate stains on the car seat that was hidden from me for several days! It comes in a spray bottle. Good Luck! S.

Could I suggest that you talk to your dry cleaner...and see if there isnt something that they know of that will help. Years ago...I had the same thing happen...only it was an entire gallon of milk that rolled under the back seat of the van...was forgotten and proceeded to ferment for a week or two until I finally figured out where that awful smell was coming from.
I do know that you have to chemically neutralize the odor...the same concept as when you pour vinegar on a pet urine stain to neutralize it but I am just not sure WHAT you use!!!
Hopefully the dry cleaners can guide you in the right direction.
Good luck!!
