Spiders - Frisco,TX

We are having a problem with spiders all of the sudden (maybe from all the rain they are trying to find a dry place?). We have a pest service - Eco-Safe, but it hasn't seemed to stop the spiders at all. They are fairly large and brown - maybe Wolf Spiders but I'm not certain. Has anyone had any luck with getting rid of spiders? I really, really, dislike them.

One suggestion that my pest control person gave me is to take the mesh/coiled scrub pads without detergents on it, that you would use on say your grill to clean it, and put those in your weep holes on the outside of your house. Make sure you push them back into the whole a bit. I don't know if it is the metal the spiders don't like or that they can't maneuver through it but she said it is a non chemical alternative to help keep them out of the house. The weep holes are where a lot of spiders come in apparently. Cheap option to try anyway.

We get spiders a lot at this time of year as well. They come in through the tiniest cracks in the house, when we open the back door there always seems to be one hiding out that gets in, etc. The best way we've been able to control them is just by keeping the house clean and dusted. We've never sprayed the inside of our house to control them or used any kinds of chemicals and they stay fairly controlled as long certain areas of the home stay free of dust and dust webs.

Good luck! Spiders are NOOOOO fun!!!

From what I've been told....the best thing to do is spray for bugs which will eliminate the spiders food source. But, I'm not sure how long it takes to starve a spider! Good Luck and welcome to Texas...where the bugs really are bigger!

We have had spiders too....we just recently found out we have some fairly significant moisture problems in one part of foundation and behind our drywall. Our pest guy...said..now you know why spiders love your place. The water!!

I never had a problem with them until we moved to Lewisville, and I have lived in Texas all my life.
The wolf spiders come into the house every spring and fall because that's when they breed and hatch eggs. The young spiders are looking for a home of their own or hunting. Wolf spiders don't make webs like other spiders. They reside under the furniture, in attics ect. and actually hunt their prey. So they roam about when they are hungry and/or thirsty (or looking for a mate).
We discovered our booming spider population was coming from our attic. So we sealed all our base boards and put expandable spray insulation in all the outlets. Then every three months, from spring to winter, I spray orange oil on the base boards.
Spiders hate citric acid (found in the orange oil). You can get a large bottle of orange oil at Home Depot or Lowes for about $15 (in the cleaning supplies or organic gardening aisles). I water down the oil to a ratio of 1 part oil to 4 parts water. Then I put it into a medium sized spray bottle. One bottle usually covers all the baseboards in the house.
This keeps most of them out of the house.
We still see an occasional spider and he quickly gets smushed or vacuumed up.
