Speedo Style Swimsuits for Little Boys

Mamas & Papas -

Any idea where to get speedo style swimsuits for little boys? We bought trunks this year, but think that speedoes would be much more comfortable next summer.

I haven't seen anything of that sort in the shops. Do I need to go to a specialty store? Is there a reason why you don't see them much anymore? hubs and I both remember seeing plenty when we were younger. They were popular in the late 70s, they are populare in europe. They seem much less unwieldy as compared with shorts.

DS will be 2.5 next summer. I think I can get away with Speedoes for our beach/ pool outings until he's at least pre-school aged. Heck, if it were up to me, I'd have him run around naked, but people can get funny about that sort of thing.

thanks,
F. B.

What can I do next?

Hmmmm....I have a 9 year old son.
I can honestly say I've never seen them anywhere for sale.
Nor have I ever seen a child anywhere, ever, wearing a Speedo suit that a are not the trunk style.
Sorry.

Stick to trunks, otherwise your son will be looking at photo albums later and say "WHY MOM, WHY?" :)

ETA: You might be able to find a pair of girls bathing suit bottoms that would look okay..

Speedos are ugly for any age. If you have your heart set on them, however, probably do a search online.

Around here, they just aren't worn by any boys. Some swim teams do still use them. Have you looked at a sports supply store? You may have to order online.

I think speedos are more of a European thing, thank goodness.

You can't find them because there is absolutey no demand for them. My boys would rather stay inside the whole summer than put those on. What you could try is to buy a girls bikini and just use the bottom because that is basically what they are anyhow. Just get a neutral one.

The European style appears to wear as little as possible. If you were in Europe on the beach you could have him wear a smile and no one would even take a second look or say anything. There would be too many families dressed in the same swim wear for them to notice your son.

However you are in America. If you find a private pool or a secluded place on a lake your son could wear a speedo or less and only you as his parents would notice or care. As a matter of fact, you and your husband could wear the same thing as your child and no one would care because you would be the only ones to see.

Whever ever you go, do as the locals do and you will not have a problem.

Good luck to you and yours.

The boys on our country club swim team wear them, but mostly just for practice and competition. They are not really popular for casual wear, probably because they are VERY revealing, lol!
I'm sure you can find them online, or at a big sporting goods store, like Sports Authority or Big 5.

Swim teams use them... So they're readily available online.

Speedo & TYR websites.

You may have to order from a sports catalog. They aren't really popular for boys state-side unless they are on a swim team and even now the long "biking short" style has been the preference for at least 8 years (my neices and nephews swam competitively).

Try googling the style you want. sure to pull them up:)

For our son this summer (18 months and not potty trained/still in swim diapers) we have both Imse Vimse and I Play swim diapers. They are much easier than the swim trunks we bought originally. We can readily buy Speedo style swimsuits at our local sports stores and also at our swim school. If I wasn't able to find them locally, then, yes, I would go on the internet. I am not sure why you can't find them easily. At our swim school I see older boys in both Speedo swimsuits and swim trunks. Maybe it's a regional thing. Good luck.

I went to the Speedo website and saw that they had some in youth boy sizes...but I don't know if they would have any for toddler. I guess you could call and ask?
I have never seen them before in the stores.

Hi! http://www.swimoutlet.com/ will have what you are looking for. You may also want to consider a jammer instead of a brief. But they are SO cute in those briefs when they are little!

My boys are on the local swim team and we buy their Speedoes at Dick's Sporting Goods. My youngest is very small for his age, and his would probably fit an average size 5 or 6 year old. His is a size "24."
