Special Wedding Gift Ideas??

Hello all :) I am hoping to find some good ideas for a wedding gift for my nephew and his fiance. They will be married in a few months, and I would like to find a gift idea that is more personal than something off of their registry. My nephew is the son of my husband's oldest brother (my husband is the youngest in the bunch) - and is more like a baby brother to us than a nephew. My husband will be a groomsman, I will be doing some scripture reading along with my oldest son, and my younger son will be the ring bearer, and my girls will be the flower girls. Anyway - we are all involved in the wedding, so with the expenses already associated with lodging, attire, etc. we can't have anything that would blow the budget. I would love to find a very special gift for them, but we really can't afford an overly expensive item. I look forward to hearing from you!!

What can I do next?

For my sister's wedding I knew someone that did acid etching in mirrors and had their wedding invitation done on a mirror for them with a small note at the bottom. They love it and it hang in their bedroom.

Since you are doing some scripture reading, why not have a certain part of the scripture printed on some very nice paper and framed. This could be very inexpensive and definitely something personal and original since you actually did the reading at their wedding. I think we would have loved something like this when my husband and I got married(although we are not religious so maybe not scripture, but something along the same line).

A few ideas: a scrapbook of their wedding if you do that sort of thing, a collection of family recipes (if they both like to cook, otherwise the wife will think you're trying to tell her something!), an item from your home that belonged to your nephew's grandparents

call 1-800 MARRIAGE that is the number for the best magazine for married couples!!! We have been getting it since 1989 and still love it.... if you find a copy of it somewhere, you can check inside and they usually have a page with suggestions for a wedding gift, including a book or two that are especially written for newlyweds.

www.marriagemagazine.org you can get a sample from the website for only $2

Hey J., I don't know the level of religion that the couple is involoved in, but my absolute favorite wedding gift was a personalized Family Bible. It has both mine and my husband's name on the cover. This is something that I plan to pass down to my daughter with everything that I have archived in it. Good Luck.

One of my favorite aunts got married after a bitter divorce, enduring 20+ years of healing from that and recreating her life, all the while being someone I could look up to and admire. I went to a local artist's shop that has ceramics, framed art, jewelry etc, and found a beautiful hand-made ceramic bowl that she can use to serve up food when she has people over, or just use it to eat popcorn while watching a movie. It was unique but still useful (which is very important in our family--we're not about frivolous gifts!). But maybe you could find something unique and perfect for them at a local shop like that.

What about a monogrammed door knocker? Sounds kind of weird, but it signifies dreams of possibly a home and kids someday?

Have you considered a Prayer Bowl? They are beautiful and personal.

I like to take the wedding invitation and frame it and then decorate the frame in the wedding colors with ribbon, flowers, beads. It turns out really nice and isn't pricey. Someone did one for our wedding in an 8x10 frame and I still treasure it 10 years later. I guarantee this would be special and a one of a kind because you are making it.

How about a photo on canvas. I did one for my sister on her wedding and she love it. I'm sure you probably take a lot of pictures on her wedding...you can then choose pictures from the wedding day and turn it into a canvas. I personally think its a nice gift and would look great on their wall. The least expensive place to get a photo on a canvas is Costco.

I"m considering getting personalized pilow cases for an up coming wedding we are going to. Maybe Satin pillowcases with their initials monogrammed, not sure but might be fun.

J.-
A couple of the gifts that went over well with the couples I gave them to were wind chimes (I had them custom made, so the music was "unique") and the other one was high end beach towels (the couple was going on a beach honeymoon.) The wife just commented to me a couple of months ago that she still has them after 25 years. You could also get a digital frame and pre-load it with great pics of the family.
Good luck on the selection.

One of friends bought us gorgeous glasses for our wedding toast (nothing cheesy-no initials or such just simple beautiful champagne glasses) and I cherish them. We want to make them part of our family wedding tradition and hope that the glasses get used for generations to come.

I used the couple's wedding and shower invitations and a nice picture of them and had it matted and framed at a local frameshop that could design it for me. They loved it!

I have had puzzles and blankets made with the couples pictures on them. I have asked for an email with their engagment pictures and use that. You can also use any snap shot you have of them or you take at the wedding. I use snapfish.com to make the items. They have many personable items.
I have also made "Stepping stones" from Micheals. It was an easy and fun thing to do.
