Does anyone know of any stores that sell large size (14-16)and maybe even petite (the length!) special occassion dresses? I'm looking for something besides lane bryant or any fancy bridal shops.... Looking to spend under $200 for a nice dress but can't find anything that fits!
I can't be the only chubby short girl looking for a nice dress! Where does everyone shop???

What can I do next?

Hi L.,
You should really try Nordstrom's. Believe it or not, you CAN find nice after 5 attire there & stay within your price range (as long as your $200 budget doesn't include shoes ;). Happy hunting!

Dear L.:

There is a store called "Fashion Bug" that sells dresses for ALL sizes of gorgeous mamas! They have a dressy section and they even have wedding dresses. Best of all, everything in the store is really reasonable.

Also, I checked Macy's online and found these CUTE dresses (the last one is my favorite) all in 14P:

All of these were WAY under $200. There were zillions more, too.

Have fun! I bet you'll look beautiful!

I'm a 14 in some cases, 16 in others, and Petite to petite/Short. I've been lucky finding dresses in the Petite area of Dillard's over at the Galleria. On occasion, they'll have something at Macy's, but I think I prefer the styles and colors over at Dillard's. because I'm heavy in the hips, it takes a certain style to look halfway decent. It makes it tougher to find pants though, since even now, for some reason, the petites seem longer. I think they're hemming them to accommodate a taller heel, so all my pants drag on the floor. But when I specifically find a pair of petite short pants, they fit just right. But I can only find those in JC Penney.

If you like the styles at JCPenney, they have the widest selection of size ranges for petite people. I just find that their dresses are a lot "boxier" looking, and I prefer the styles I've found at Dillards more. Plus, when you find a sale going on, the dress prices are comparable to JCPenney. I've found a great dress I use for cruises, a special work event, or holiday party, that only cost around $69 on sale at Dillards. Check out their little black dress area....

Good luck!
