Can anyone advise me where I should look for a full-time Spanish Nanny. We live in the city and I want someone who's mother tongue is Spanish and can work five days a week Monday through Friday.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks for the advice, we live in the Flatiron District but I'll check on the sites advised. Honestly I have not met a Spanish Nanny....yes I know this seems bizarre living in New York. I'll report back if I have success.

Seriously? You're having a hrad time finding a spanish speaking nanny in NYC? I'm not being sarcastic, it's just that's all I see/hear about are people with spanish speaking nannies. The other reason I ask is because now so many Russian moms are looking for Russian nannies and only spanish/mexican woman were applying. Try posting a notice in your church or religious place of worship or contact the YMCA (where I am it seems like many people get good nannies or home health aides from word of mouth there).

I am not sure where you live but we lived in the Washington Heights area and had 2 great nannies who were both Spanish dominant. I found them both through of word of mouth but you might be successful with neighborhood chat rooms like "inwoodkids" or "parentandme". These are both yahoo groups. Also, you might check craigslist and ask about Spanish dominance. I have had a nanny 2 days a week for the last 3 1/2 years and my girls know a lot of Spanish. It is great!

Sittercity.com is a great site. You have to pay a small fee (about $40) but you quickly find a nanny with your exact qualifications. That's where we found our nanny!

I would recommend that you contact La Escuelita. It's a dual language (spanish/english) preschool and they always keep lists of nanny's who speak spanish. www.laescuelitanyc.org Good luck.

I would post your request on Park Slope Parents yahoo group to see if you get any recommendations from other parents. You have to join and I think the fee is $25 to be a member, but there are a lot of parents looking for work for their babysitters, and a lot of Spanish-speaking babysitters live in Sunset Park. If you don't want to join PSP or want to get more applicants, put a post on Craigslist. Another option is posting on a college job board like Columbia or NYU. You might find a Spanish-speaking student studying early childhood development in graduate school, looking for day work! Good luck to you...
