Sore "Down There" - Maybe TMI - Help!

So today I've been so irritated down there if you know what I mean. Just itchy. I don't know why. No weird discharge or anything. But, I did the worst thing you could possibly do. About an hour ago I just went to town and scratched the hell out of myself. DUH. Now, I am in soooo much pain! I took a mirror and looked and of course I am SUPER red and swollen. And I just hurt. What should I do to ease the pain? I know I just need to give myself a little time. I don't think I have an infection.....but I am still really itchy.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I feel a little better this morning...but not all the way. So I made a dr's appt for 2:30pm. Thanks ladies!!
So.. not sure if anyone reads these updates? (lol) but I went to the Dr and was told I have a "slight" bacterial infection - not even enough to prescribe me anti-biotics... she said I caught it super early and told me to go buy some pro-biotics from Whole Foods. She did give me a prescription for an anti-biotic gel (just in case) but she also said since I have a cold .. that could cause the slight bacteria as well? I dunno. I bought some pro-biotics and she said take them every day and I should feel better.

It sounds like A yeast infection. There is a kit you can buy that can help "diagnosis" whether it's yeast or something else.

Did you, uh, get a good one in the past few evenings with the husband?

TMI, I've had times when we, um... did it REAL nice and hard... and afterwards I'm like OMG YOU BROKE IT!!... try these 2 things: 1, stick an ice pack on there! Seriously! You medically could have just bruised yourself (itching is a result of a bruise healing)... or 2, go sans undies. Even if something got int there and irritated it during intercourse, 'airing out your lady' can work wonders. Wear a knee length or long skirt without panties, and let her BREATHE.... if it still bothers you in a day or two, call your gyno.

Good luck ;)

Ice pack helps with itching and swelling. Vagisil cream can help with numbing the pain or itch. I get like that from a yeast infection before I even get any discharge. If you put on the Monistat cream and it stings but then tomorrow you feel a lot better, then you do have a yeast infection. Also, a home remedy for yeast infections is vinegar douches since the pH of the vagina is off in one direction (too basic) and vinegar (acidic) brings it back to normal pH (but I could have it backwards). Since I do not remember the proportions from my feminist health center days in college, I would just get a vinegar douche at CVS. I NEVER douche normally and have not done so in years since your vagina is perfect at cleansing itself, but once it is out of whack, it can help. Oh, and my doctor said those test strips to measure if you have a yeast infection are bogus, since every vagina (and the air and your skin and the kitchen counter) ALWAYS has yeast. The real test is how much yeast and what the pH is. A good ObGyn will test the pH and instantly know if you have yeast or bacterial overgrowth and prescribe the correct medicine. But if you are in pain tonight, then self treatment with ice, ibuprofen to reduce pain and swelling, and perhaps a vinegar douche may help until you can see a doctor. Or self treat with Monistat but if you have Bacterial Vaginosis instead you will just wast $14 and a week of time and still have an infection. Good luck,we have all been there.

Did you change detergents? Get a shower. Use Dove soap or similar gentle soap. Fresh undies.

you may have a yeast infection or just some type of irritation - if the vigorous scratching actually broke the skin, i'd start with some neosporin or vaseline to coat/soothe the area, and then get some type of external vaginal itching cream - i think vagisil makes one for "feminine irritation". have you changed any laundry soaps or wearing a different fabric of panty or different brand of tampon/pad/pantiliner? soak in a luke warm tub of baking soda maybe. hope you feel better soon, i know that's miserable :(

Get some vagisil and apply it all around the outside. Since its red and swollen it may sting and burn but just hold your breath and it will stop within a few seconds. It will numb the area. Sounds like a yeast infection to me. That's how I am when I get them. It burns and itches so bad it hurts to pee my skin is so irritated. Get that vagisil cream it will help! Hope you feel better!

Keeping it short, I agree with a LOT of the below.

I usually go for a nice cool bath, follow it up with a MILD vinegar wash - try to pat dry what you can - and a LIGHT coating of whatever itch medicine you prefer (Vagisil sometimes seems to make things worse, if I don't go lightly with it?).

Sleep nakie to let it air out, and seriously, if its still hurting in a day or two, call the doc!

I have been there all itchy lots of times especially after my period. Try some Vagisil. Also, let her air out by wearing no undies to bed. Apparently she loves to breathe.

I've had problems with sweat rash in that area and it sounds like what you described. I've used my kids' diaper cream and it goes away. Triple Paste is my preferred and does not smell like typical diaper cream, it's the only diaper cream I use on my daughter as it's the only one that works. Also Boudreaux's Butt Paste smells really nice, I recommended it to a friend that had to wear jeans to work no matter the weather and kept getting sweat rash on her inner thighs and it worked perfect for her.

Sounds like a little external yeast infection, really. Get some of the cream treatment and put it on the itchy areas instead of inserting.
Diaper rash cream might help it feel better for now, but you'll probably need something anti-fungal to make it actually go away.

Hope you feel better.

Go to your doctor. Don't try to treat/diagnose yourself. There is a bacterial infection called baterial vaginosis. It's different from a yeast infection and needs an antibiotic to clear it. Sometimes your ph gets out of wack, sstress, swimming, sweating, sex, etc can all contribute to overgrowth of bacteria. I'm prone to both yeast and bacterial vaginosis. It can be hard to differentiate without lab test. I've actually had both at the same time. So uncomfortable! Also, sometimes vaginal infections can present as symptoms from other issues ie diabetes, immune system not functioning, poor diet. Vagisil does help the itching and so does an ice pack. So not fun being a woman sometimes. Hope you get some relief!

I would say it's probably bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection. I have had several yeast infections that did not produce discharge, and were caused by sudden hormonal changes (at the beginning of my period), or simply from staying in my sweaty workout clothes a bit too long. If it's a yeast infection, if left untreated, it can become very uncomfortable, so if you are not willing to try a diagnosis kit, then make it a point to visit your ob/gyn for further testing before the itching gets worse! You don't want to end up tearing your skin from so much scratching.

Also, be careful when washing down there. I'd use a fragrance-free, sensitive skin soap because soaps with fragrance can not only disturb the flora down there, but can increase the itching, and make sure to dry down there completely. As silly as it may sound, I sometimes use a blow-dryer on the cool setting to help keep me dry after a shower.

Sorry, but had to giggle a bit! Are you sure you just don't have a yeast infection? I only had one in my whole life and at the time I had no idea what it was but I itched really bad and then it burned when I urinated. I would treat it as if you did. It couldn't hurt. Good luck!
