It could also be those pesky wee house spiders. The mosquitos like my hubby but hate me, but if we have any spiders they'll locate me, and most of the time if they are the tiny ones, the bite looks similar to a mosquito bite. For spiders the best thing to do is strip the bed, take the mattress off or out, and I find that the very non-toxic vegie wash from whole foods (also has citric acid in it) takes care of buggers. Good Luck - whatever it is I hope you find it soon and irradicate it!

Hi B.!

It is not mosquitoes if he is waking up every morning w/more. Mosquitoes really feed where there is a lot of water, like standing water, swamp type of atmospheres. Unless he has been spending alot of time out in the country and with lots of water, it isn't mosquitoes.

Sounds like Bed Bugs to me. Yes, there is such a thing!! Go check it out on www.WEBMD.com ...great website to find out anything you need!! I would give you more info, but I just entered bed bugs and lots of info came up, so you try and it and see!! I am having trouble w/my internet connection due to the storm! They do have tons of info.

Good Luck!

If it is mosquitos, or for this summer when you are out and need a bug spray to repel the mosquitos for kids . . . there is a great non-chemical kids bug spray called fly swatter. I get it at www.kissmyface.com It works pretty well and i don't worry about using all the harsh chemical stuff on my kids. (if we are going camping or hiking i do use the harsh stuff to fend off the chiggers and ticks and such, but this stuff is great for the backyard)

B.,
I have a friend who had an expensive landscaper design her yard. He said if you plant rosemary plants all around your house that mosquitos hate the smell and it will keep them away from your home. She had them tuck the plants here and there around her yard. You keep them trimmed back and about 15 minutes before going outside you shake them and the rosemary scent gets in the air. My friend is on her second summer with a pool and neither of her kids have gotten bit by mosquitos. Of course, this is just an (at home) remedy.

My little guy gets eaten also and then they SWELL. The Dr. says he doesn't need any prescription but what I've done is to use the Benedryl gel after any bites and and also before he goes out in the morning. If he's really itchy I put him in an oatmeal bath. Also when he started school I would put bug repellant on him and ask the teachers to reapply.

He still got bites but not as bad.

You can get Skin so Soft from Avon dealer. My husband and I lived in Alaska and they joke it is the state bird. We did not have a problem with the mosquitos but when we went to look at some property there were tons of them. I had on Skin So Soft as the even sold it along the road side. He had Cutters and the only bite I got was above the ear on the bony part. So he teased me that Cutters was better but I smelled better. Probably just a place I missed. They seem to like the bony part of our bodies. Usually it is cause where there are a lot of vegetation or standing water. I would spray the yard and Home Depot has some spray. Also my son through boy scouts said to put some cooking oil in the standing water. It kills the larve.

I am pretty sure they are not skeeters as I have the same problem. I am also pretty sure they are not bed bugs for us also because there is no evidence of them on ANY of our mattresses. So I will check out the spiders myself. I hope your problem gets better. I understand your pain.

Hi. I've had the problem of having skeeters in the house and I didn't like the idea of my sons sleeping with stuff all over them. I heard that putting dryer sheets around his bed will keep them away. I tried it and it works. I even put them in my room and hang them on my back pocket when I am outside so they will stay away. It also makes the house smell good.

We have had a few mosquitos in our home lately. I don't know where they are coming from. Cortizone cream should take the itch out. Ask your pharmacist about the dosage for your little one.

Also, you might take him to the dr. You said that he seems to have more every morning. That might mean bed bugs. There was a report on TV about how bed bugs are running rampant in several regions this year. So if it continues, that might be the case.

Good luck dear.

I am not sure if you are saying that your son is being bitten by mosquitoes in your home?? It can and does happen. My sister had mosquitoes in her home last year that would come out at night and they could hear them buzzing. They would wake up with bites all over them. She found the larvae swimming in a toilet that didn't get used often...and inside of their dog’s water bowl. It was the kind that has the tank that you fill.

Please be sure not to spray chemicals in your home. Whole Foods also has many natural products that you can put on his skin at night that are plant based and not harmful. If you will ask the people that work there...they usually very helpful.

Hey there i dont have any advice on what it is but my mom has an old home remidy that seems to work on any bug bite that any of her kids has gotten. you take some baking soda and some water and make a paste and put it on there and let it dry in sounds wierd but it really works. she has used it on my youngest brother when he has gotten ant bites, he is very allergic and ends up swelling and this stuff always makes it better.

Hope you find out what they are and how he is getting them. They make sprays with natural ingredients and I would spray everywhere.Clean everything and the citrus oil works well.Lots of childhood diseases start with things that look like bites though. So I would take him to a doctor that would know specifically what they were.Benadryl is good for the itching.

Hello, Well if you are seeing more every morning then there must be a nest in the area he sleeps or plays in before bedtime. Mesquitos are night bugs and they rarely come out during the day. You need to clean out and spray all corners dark areas in his room to ensure there are no nest. They have over the counter mesquito sticks in walmart. When you put this on the bite is seems to somehow numb that bite. It is the best we have found with my nieces. Hope you find the nest.

I hope it's not spider bites........
My DD occasionally wakes up with bites. When she has them she has a lot of them. We discovered that spiders were getting into her room and snacking on her at night because they couldn't find any food.
Keep an eye on those bites because if they are spider bites they can grow into ugly, red, ring like patterns surrounding the bite. It looks like ring worm, but the Dr told us it was a spider bite. It's a harmless allergic reaction to the bite.
Some bites will also get dry, scaly, and sometimes itchy. They can take up to 6 weeks to heal and go away.
I have used all sorts of things to treat it and nothing seems to work well (caladryl, vitamin e oil, lotions, and creams you name it!). Don't let them get dry though; they become more red- so benadryl cream is useless.
We found prevention to be the best way to deal with it.
Spiders hate citric acid (so do many other bugs). So any household product containing orange oil will keep them away.
I have found it cheapest to buy a large bottle of orange oil at Home Depot or Lowes (found in their cleaning supply or organic gardening section). I water some down in a spray bottle 1 part orange oil to 4 parts water and spray it on the baseboards, under the furniture, and in the closets around the house.
Spray everything about every 3 or 4 months because the stuff does wear off after a while.
Also take off all the outlet covers in his room and spray in some expandable insulating foam. This will seal the space in the wall around the outlet so spiders living in the walls and attic can not use the outlet as a way to get into his room. You can get a can of expandable foam at the hardware store too. Ive also seen it at Walmart.
Also vacuum under and inside all the furniture in his room.
Between the mattresses too. The first spider we found in my DD's room was hiding between the mattresses on her bed.
About three months later she got bit again and we found one hiding in a top corner of her closet.
