Anyone have ideas for a father-daughter dance at a 1st Communion? Im trying to stay away from the typical wedding ones (i.e butterfly kisses, unforgettable, etc)

What can I do next?

I could be just stuck in 10 mos old Mommy mode, but I like the simple song, "You are my sunshine"...

Circle Game by Joni Mitchell?

I Will by the Beatles?

This is definitley not a traditional song but I LOVE it and it makes me cry whenever I hear it. I'm not sure the exact title - "I will take you Home." Its from the Grateful Dead. Brent Midland (spelling?) Wrote it to his daughter and it is soooo sweet! Unfortunatley theres some tradgedy behind it, but no need to get into that - but I think thats why it makes me cry...regardless, the words are so sweet and it might be an option?

heres the lyrics...not sure if you will think its "to much" for this event..its still a really NICE song!
I Will Take You Home

Lyrics By: Brent Mydland
Music By: Brent Mydland
Little girl lost in a forest of dreams
It's a dark old wood, and it's damp with dew
Hoot owl hoots, for a moment it seems
Something big and cold got a hold of you
Just when everything gets scary
Daddy's coming round for his darling again
Hold my hand with your little fingers
Daddy's loving arms gonna gather you in

Ain't no way the Bogeyman can get you
You can close your eyes, the world is gonna let you
Your daddy's here and never will forget you
I will take you home
I will take you home
Gonna carry you back home in my arms
I will take you home

Long is the road we must travel on down
Short are the legs that will struggle behind
I wish I knew for sure just where we're bound
What we will be doing, and what we're gonna find
Wherever we go, there will be birds to cheer you
Flowers to color in the fields around
Wherever we go, I'll be right here near you
You can't get lost when you're always found

Ain't no fog that's thick enough to hide you
Your daddy's gonna be right here beside you
If your fears should start to get inside you
I will take you home
I will take you home
Gonna carry you back home in my arms
I will take you home

We had a Jerry Garcia song as our wedding dance - hee hee! So we aren't into "traditional" either.

How about something cute, upbeat and youthful like "My Girl" by I believe the Temptations. It's an oldie but a goodie, everyone knows it and I think it is so cute for Daddy and daughter. I plan on using it for my daughter's 1st birthday slide show.

Have fun!!

Hi M. D.,
Ok, I make a DVD of pictures of my son every year around his birthday and I put it to music. There's one song that always gets me. It's by Rascal Flatts and it's called "My Wish". You can go to Youtube.com and type in Rascal Flatts my wish and it will play the song for you. My video is NOT on there, but at least you can hear the song. You may think it's weddingish, but I thought I'd offer it up. Let us know what you decide :o) Have a great weekend.

How about "You are so Beautiful" or there's a beautiful song I am doing for my preschool graduation slide show by Kenny Rodgers called "Handprints on the Wall" it is a tear jerker but its great. Go onto youtube and listen to it. If you don't like those then go onto youtube and request songs dad's dedicate to daughters I am sure there are plenty others. My husband danced with my daughter at her Sweet 16 to Rod Stewarts "The Way you look tonight" it was beautiful but a little grown up for communion. Good luck!!

When our daughter was born, we dedicated Kenny Rogers' "I'll Be There For You" to her, and it's been our song to her all her life. It's probably meant for a partner but the lyrics are vague enough that they can apply to a child. It's not a typical wedding song, nor it is one of Kenny Rogers' better-known ones, but it is pretty and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
