My son is 9 yrs. old. He just had alot of dental work done including two adult molars pulled (has stitches) My concern is he hasn't eaten anything in 3 days...I can get him to drink about 10 to 11 oz of liquid in a 24 hr. period (trying to up his intake) he is 4'10"tall and weighs 130lbs so i'm not worried about him fading away.. I don't want him to get run down and not feel well because he's not eating .He tried the first day after surgery and said it feels really horrible to eat and swallow..he says it's not pain but more of a weird feeling in his mouth and tounge...I've looked in his mouth and everything looks pretty good. I've tried every easy to swallow, slide down kind of thing I can think of..I also told him whatever he wanted to eat he could have.. He still says it feels too weird..Will he be o.k. for another couple days without eating??I am making him drink fluids..via a medicine dropper i'm squirting into his mouth.. about 4-6 teaspoons every 1/2 hr or so .... I'm at a loss.. thanks for any answers or suggestions..K. foot note thanks for the suggestions so far..just needed to add.. with the surgery the oral surgeon said to avoid straws for at least 3 weeks. He hates chicken broth or beef broth I am trying to get him to try some warm tea..My main concern is if he will make himself sick by not eating any type of food for a long amount of time..I think it might be the feeling of the stiches but he is sooo stubborn I'm thinking he probably won't eat until they dissolve in another 4-5 days!!

What can I do next?

Poor baby!

Have you tried hot food, like soup? Does that feel weird too? He can suck that thru a straw right quick...

I am sure he will be fine not eating for a couple of days...I agree with the ensure or even "instant breakfast" drinks?

Try giving him a slim fast or ensure or something like that for a day or two if you are worried about getting in vitamins n such otherwise let him not eat if it makes him feel better he will eat when he is really hungry in the mean time try to keep it to straw type liquids/foods get the bigger type straws if you can.

you can give him the pedialyte popsicles..he wont really eat them just let them melt in his mouth but that will help his electrolytes and keep him hydrated...also pediasure for some nutrition..the weird feeling is probably from the novacane injections, depending on how much they gave him it may take a while to all wear off.
