My son is 15 months old and after his naps he just crys uncontrolably. It lasts for like 20-30 minutes most times. When I go up to get him he is sitting up, kicks his legs and crys he acts likes hes so mad or something. When I hold him he still crys if I try to put him down it gets worse and he wants me to hold him but yet it doesnt seem to help him. I have tried to give him a snack or a drink and nothing helps calm him down or give him something to play with he seems to get even more mad and keeps crying. Eventually after trying snacks and a drink he will calm down and eat.
Does anyone else have children that are doing this or have done this? Do you know what could be wrong or is this just him? Will this pass in time? It has been going on for quite awhile now. I have daycare kids also so it makes it hard when he crys so much and he crys so loud also. Any suggestions would be just great!! Thank you:) L.
Thank you to all who took the time to give me advice. I did however take my son to the Dr. to have him checked out and he is just fine no ear infections or anything!! So its just him right now and I think I will just try to put him back in bed till he stops crying but with other children here sleeping its hard. Thanks again.
I'd have him checked for an ear infection too. When our daughter was 2 months old she would wake up and scream a really high pitched scream. We assumed she was just "finding her voice". About a week later she spiked a fever and was diagnosed with an ear infection. After she was on an antibiotic for a couple of days we realized she wasn't screaming any more like she had been.
My son is 2 1/2 and also does this. Obviously, he's been checked for ear infections and such and he is perfectly fine the rest of the day. I don't 'cater' to his crying. I DO ask him "What's wrong?" and tell him to show me what he wants, but I think he just doesn't know. It takes him a little while to settle down. Most of the time, when he wakes up, I just leave him alone for a little while. I let him "come out of his shell" and wake up before I talk to him. That helps a lot. Sometimes, he IS still tired and will go back to sleep for a little while on the couch.

My son who is two tried this before a few months ago. I noticed it happens when he doesn't get a good rest or enough rest. There were times when I could take him out of his crib, he would be crying and crabby towards me, so I just put him right back in his crib, he would stop so I'd get him out again, then he'd try it again. Each time he did it, I'd put him right back in his crib and let him know he can come out when he stops crying. Needless to say we don't have this problem anymore and it only lasted a short while for us. Kids are smart, treat them as such. He'll catch on and realize that if he cries and screams he goes back to the crib and eventually he should stop. Mine did. :)

My son would do this when he had a ear infection. He gave me no other clues except when he would wake up he would scream and be really mad. Good Luck :)T.
My first thought was he might be physically uncomfortable for some reason, congestion that settled in his head, an ear infection, acid reflux something like that. Something that might clear up after being upright and awake for awhile. Either that or maybe he is still really tired ya know, let he is waking up before he is really ready? Just some ideas..... This sounds a lot like a little boy I nannied for. It didn't happen all the time and seemed to happen more when he was overly tired. The mom, who had obviously laso been dealing with it, told me to just lay him back down and tell him to sleep a little longer, and he would normally fall back to sleep. She said she had been doing reading and it could be associated with night tremors or something along that line. Not sure if this helps you, but it worked in my situation. Good luck!
