Hello,

My son (who is almost 8 months) has been to the Ped to be seen for his coughing and she decided to give him amoxi and an antihistamine for his cough and she said his ear was red. It has been a little over a week and he is still coughing. He coughs when he is trying to sleep and it will wake him up sometimes. He also has a runny nose here and there (sometimes clear but other times it is brownish). I am getting so frustrated that this "cold" wont go away. Does this sound like a normal cold or do you think it is something else? I am looking for a new doctor for him if anyone has a good pedi in the Keller Texas area. Thanks.

Also he is on a Probiotic Culturelle for kids once a day.

What can I do next?

My daughter had a terrible cough that we worried about. I took her in several times, and she was on several antibiotics. It ended up being diagnosed as asthma. We got a nebulizer, and it helped a lot. She grew out of it. It took awhile for the doctor to get to that point, so maybe mention it. Good luck.

I would take him back in, it could be normal. But I know alot of people that keep having to go back in for secondary infections repeatedly this season.

Once I almost didn't take my son back in, as he had been seen like one a week for three weeks. I ended up just doing it, and he had the start of pneumonia. Nothing I did, or the doctors didn't do, it just happened.

Although both of my kids have the same problem this time of year (they're OK until it's time to sleep, then the drainage makes them cough and makes sleeping quite difficult)......usually it's viral and takes several days (if not a few weeks) to alleviate.

If you're really concerned, I'd recommend seeking either another visit with this pediatrician or with a different pediatrician.

I have a friend who is a Family Practitioner and for most of his life has been treated for asthma - at almost 40 years old, he finally was diagnosed with the root cause of all his respiratory problems - food allergies.

So, even the most educated people who do this day in and day out can be confused by symptoms that overlap with other things.

Good luck. I hope he gets to feeling better soon and that the meds start making everything better.

I've seen a ton of kids in my office with the same thing - sometimes lasting at least 6 weeks before the parents bring them in to me. Within a week, they are cough-free. You may want to try giving him PB8 - start with 1/2 capsule - open it and dump it in to his mouth for bottle, etc.....and you can increase it up to 2. The bowels will tell you if he needs less, once they get loose. I've also used a Toxic Fungi-Mold detox with a LOT of them and that has helped or theurapetuc dosages of vitamin A with D. Feel free to contact me, with any questions.
