Soft or Firm ?

I'm buying a new mattress via mail order- decent quality and price - with good reviews. It is going to be primarily a guest bed and then one of my kids' may want to sleep on it later.

I am not a picky person when it comes to mattresses, firm or soft is good for me. But which one do you think is best for an all around good mattress? To my understanding, the primary difference between the firm and plush is that the plush has 40 more coils and a pillowtop making it a soft mattress. Thank you.

What can I do next?

We have a pillowtop too. I think it's a nice balance between superfirm and too soft.

I LOVE my pillow top - If the house were on fire... I would throw it out the window to land on before I jumped!! LOL - I cant stand hotel beds anymore! I vote soft/medium but it is a personal preference...

firm is better for your back...if it is going to be for guests maybe something in the middle since not everyone likes their mattresses the same.

Yikes, I would be a little nervous buying one without trying it. I did however, order one for my daughter from Sam's Club. We tried one in the store, they just don't carry the twin in the store, it is a memory foam mattress, was less than $150 for the twin size, and works great in her loft bed. I wanted memory foam, because a lot of the other mattresses with pillow tops etc...made me nervous that she would be that much closer to the top edge of the railing and might roll out. Her mattress is very comfortable, and we love it! Good luck!
