So What's the "In Thing" for 1St Grade Boys This Christmas??

My guy is on a science kick, so he's getting fun kid chemistry type sets to mix, create, etc. He got a lego x-wing from his uncle already. He likes the show Paw Patrol on Nick Jr, but no toys for that yet.

He doesn't really have any super favorite things. He's in aftercare, so he plays with what they have there game-wise.

Any ideas? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My son keeps asking for BeyBlades, so he's getting that this year. You can't play it alone, really, since it's a battle type game, but it is great for play dates. If he has friends over on the weekend, I'd definitely recommend it.

If he likes science, consider looking into the various Snap Circuit kits. Amazon has a bunch. I'm hoping my mother in law will buy him one of those. Can't decide between the regular and the glow in the dark.

My kids keep talking about Skylander's Swap Force. They are also into Minecraft, so we are getting Xbox this Christmas. Minecraft can also be played on an Ipad.

Here are some other things that my kids absolutely love:

Star Wars swords and shields

Nerf guns

Club Penguin--It's a computer game that you sign up for. You create a penguin and play online by yourself or with your friends who have also created their own penguins. It's really cool...and safe also.

A new pair of rollerblades

Transformers

My boys also enjoy ice skating lessons, swim lessons, and playing hockey.

I hope this helps:)

Definitely encourage the science interest. A microscope with slides would be awesome. You can actually look at Lakeshore Learning for some ideas.

Of he likes science, he might like the big observation pods, magnifiers, etc. I forget the brand but they're usually on the best toys list. (Green box.)
OR -- at that age I remember the make-a-volcano kit being a hit.

My first grader wants bey blades (spinning tops that you "battle" to see whose can keep spinning longer). Star Wars, Pokemon, and Yu-hi-oh are the other things that are cool at his school. The kids are allowed to bring small toys to after care, so he learns about them all.

When my son was that age, it was all about Lego's and more Lego's and Nerf guns and I also always got him classic games like Ker Plunk, Lite Brite, Twister, and a Dr. Seuss game called I Can Do That around that age. We always do lots of books, too. And also something active to do outside--sleds, or pogo sticks, or sports stuff.

If he loves science, how about a kid's microscope or telescope.
