I should be thrilled to sit, read, watch tv, go on internet clean or whatever but I am BORED during the 2-3 hour daily nap. How do you spend that time?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the replies. I didn't mean to sound spoiled. It's just that I feel like I am always cleaning and folding laundry so I was looking for ideas of something new and more stimulating to use my free time which I will only have for another year or so until she stops napping, then when both of them are in school I would have a good hobby.

Seriously....you're bored! Isn't it nice to just be able to be bored now and then...I know I enjoy it. Sometimes it's nice to space out and stare at the wall without a kiddo pulling on you.

I nap with my son sometimes, I watch tv shows that are strictly my shows, I read, I clean, I do mamapedia, I paint my nails, I make lunch, I work in the yard, I fold and put away clothes, I organize my son's closet, I catch up on emails, I call my mom, I write, I daydream...there's an endless supply of choices.

Bored during naps?! Your child must still be very young to be taking 2-3 hour daily naps, and you must only have one child. As a very busy SAHM, I look forward to naptime! I love my children, but it's one of my favorite times of the day. Sometimes, I just enjoy the silence. If I were you, I would be enjoying this time, because your child will not nap like that forever.

I mean this nicely, but I am so hating on you right now. I don't ever recall having that "problem." I'm also LMAO at the person who suggested you need more kids.

Maybe this is why so many people scrapbook or knit?

I am reading your words, but they or foreign to me..

Clean your house, cook meals, bake, take a nap, exercise, go online and plan Christmas gift purchases, take up a craft, read, take an online course take the baby monitor and go outside and garden.

Not to be rude, but at school the kids are told only boring people are bored..

holy cow you get your child to sleep for 2-3 hours? WOW

the 1 hour I get out of my child (which by the way is broken up by her waking 30 mins later and I have to put her back down) I shower and usually just clean up whatever mess she made. If I had 2 hours, my rear would be cleaning or laundry.

Enjoy it because it does not last!

My daughter, now 4 1/2 years old, rarely takes a nap any more... this saddens me :(

During nap times this is what I did: nap myself, clean, read, computer time, write a letter, watch tv, sit outside if it is nice with a cold glass of beverage, nap (yes I know I said it twice, I miss my nap), prep lunch/dinner, take up a hobby (knit, crocteh, scrapbooking).

Laundry, watching my favorite shows (recorded), Mamapedia!, online shopping (not lots of purchasing, more research), paying bills, updating our online family calendar, planning summer camps, etc.

Why don't you exercise or watch a movie? Scrapbook?

Goodness, I would pay money to have that much time to myself now! Our kids' naptimes were spent cleaning the house, washing bottles, doing dishes, scheduling appts/handling phone calls. When I had any time after that, I'd do an exercise DVD. I was always busy. If you genuinely are bored, maybe look into a work-from-home party sales type job that you could manage during those hours?

Take up a hobby. Learn to sew or crochet or paint or .......
My kids never napped that long, so I didn't have a chance to get bored. I did paint our master bedroom, the kitchen, the master bath, the guest bath and the guest bedroom... all during naps though.
And I stained a bookshelf during naps. These all took several days to complete...b/c my son never napped longer than 90 minutes MAX.

My daughter is going to be 5 soon and we are just starting to slack off on naps a bit. She really doesn't sleep at preschool but we still have naptime if we're at home on the weekends. Most of the time she'll sleep for about an hour. I am so jealous of you right now getting 2-3 hours. lol

When we are at home on the weekends and my daughter's napping I usually use that time in one of the ways you mentioned above. Sometimes I go on the internet, watch tv, clean, do laundry, cook/bake or I take a nap too. The thing I'm going to miss the most is napping on the couch in the fall (when it's starting to cool off outside) while my hubby is watching football. :)

Oh man, I can't tell you how jealous I am! The few times I get 2-3 hours to myself, they just fly by. I do all the things you say, plus sleep, exercise, crochet, organize my photos. Enjoy it while you can, because when those naps go away, you will miss being bored! :)

My son is napping right now and I can't wait for him to fall asleep everyday. We moms need a recharge to be able to be there for our kids without being grouchy or short-tempered. Go on mamapedia more, get netflix like we did and get movies everyweek so you have something to watch during nap, read which I never have time to do EXCEPT naptime and just rest for goodness sake!!!!

Anyway - how I spend my time during naps. I am so lucky my 3 yo still naps most days for at least an hour. I try not to do housework, this is my time. So I do my online courses, I am doing my pre reqs for a degree - so while I would love to watch tv or craft, I am stuck here at my computer doing algebra and biology.
Maybe you could take a few online courses?

You're lucky you get that much time. I only get an hour at the most and my oldest no longer naps.

I always either read, watched TV/movies, crafts (scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing) or house work. I was never bored. I even did some gardening when it was warm (brought the baby monitor outside).

OMG!! When I saw this question I figured you'd have 100 envious mommas cursing you out...

I cannot relate at all. I have a child who naps 2 hrs or so when I am lucky and the time FLIES by because I work full time outside the home and on weekends I have approximately 1,000,000 things to do. Seriously I am so far behind I will never catch up ie I never made my wedding album from 2003 and didn't organize my honeymoon photos from 2006, we moved over a year ago and I haven't unpacked everything yet as I have time, you name it and I am behind on it..

I have never in my life been bored, always busy working out, reading, doing household chores like paying bills, cleaning, house maintenance. I absolutely cannot fathom an adult being bored! Perhaps you have a really helpful husband who does all of these things?

In any case, maybe taking up some sort of hobby would help you out...good luck!!! Naptime is a very finite time in child development so you won't have them much longer anyway...

I understand what you mean, you have things to do that you don't want to do, but would rather do something more interesting.

Here's a few that were helpful for me - netflix (watch a movie or a tv show at random), exercise (yoga or something that doesn't shake the house), catch up on a project (I did my wedding album on maternity leave, still haven't done the reception one yet). You can also make it experimental cooking time - research and try a recipe (dessert, beverage, dinner). I've assembled photo albums for my daughter, i use shutterfly and have them print pix I've taken of family and other events, plus normal things in her life (the park, the cats, her toys). She loves looking through them, especially ones of relatives she doesn't see often. She's on album 9 (she just turned 3) and she'll be able to keep them, and look back at them without a computer.

Think about what is fun for you that you can do while at home, and expand on it. I'm sure we'd all be curious to see what you end up doing with your time! have fun!

Hi J., Have you ever thought about starting your own home-based business? I have one with a "Green" company that combines leverage with long-term residual income; a company in the Health & Wellness industry offering "Green" & all-natural products that most of us already include in our budgets. This would allow you to work your business during nap-time while helping you meet new 'friends' and create a nice side income. Please contact me if you would like to chat more about this - no obligation, I promise. If you send me your phone number, I will call you during nap-time! We actually live close enough for us to meet for coffee and chat, if you prefer. My contact info is: ###-###-#### ____@____.com Something to think about... hope this is helpful. Take care. E. Taft
