Hi all,

May not be possible, but does anyone know of a snow vacation spot within overnight drive from Fort Worth? TX. Doesn't need to be the "famous" places. Budget friendly would be great. For dad and almost 9 year old boy.

Vacation is from Saturday through December 2 - just looking for a few days anytime in the next couple of weeks.

What can I do next?

Where do the other families in your area go to vacay in the snow? Honestly your best resource is the local community, your friends, kids" friends/parents, etc. Even if I didn't know people that well I always spoke to them about things like this...where did you go? what dd you do? where did you stay?

The way the weather is this year you are going to have to go to the mountains, Rocky, Smoky, doesn't matter, but I doubt it will be cheap.

We have a ski area here but even if the weather turned tomorrow it would be after the holidays before you would see snow.

The closest place where there is snow is Colorado. You need to look at the weather channel or Colorado skiing to see where there is snow that is usable or just not enough yet.

If I were you I'd be watching the weather.com and you'll have a better idea where and when the snow is coming and then you can make your plan. Have fun!

Look at Wolf Creek ski area... Alpine accents vacation homes. They have a TON of snow, about a 12 hr drive from dfw

You might not be able to find a room at a ski lodge, but I bet you can find a hotel room nearby...it's worth a try anyway. Wolf Creek Pass is really nice. You can take a day off in the town Pagosa Springs and go soak in the hot springs. This would be my number one choice. In New Mexico I really like both Red River and Angel Fire. Both are small and family friendly and fun to ski at. Sipapu is near both of these and is very very small...but very good for families. It's old school...not fancy. Of course there are the big places...Santa Fe, Taos, and in many others Colorado. They are pretty expensive though. Ruidoso is another ski area town in Colorado but is very popular so it might be hard to find a room. Purgatory in Durango is also nice and also popular. Good luck.

Honestly, you might not be able to find anything because of the weather and the time of year. These places book in a year advance. I would get on expedia and google. FInd out what areas meet your criteria. Have fun!
