Snow-sick and Yearning for Spring. Who's with Me?

I fully realize that some people have it far worse - like my firends in the Boston area with 8 feet of snow, or those in the mid-Atlantic, who have less snow but don't have big plows, sand trucks or the experience of driving in the snow. But here in the NY area we've had significant snow on the ground since mid-late January. And, it's snowing again. The roads are awful. The schools are closed again. I'm at work wishing I was on my couch in my sweats with a fire in the fireplace. But really, I wish it was May and I was outside enjoying the warmth of the sun. I think the giant pile of snow that the plow leaves in front of my house (I'm at the end of a cul de sac) won't have melted yet by Memorial Day. (HAHAHA) Hopefully it will be gone by 4th of july.

Anyone have any humor or encouragement to help us all get through this?

What can I do next?

I'm right there with you LOL! I didn't realize how big a drag this has been until I was listening to the radio this morning and they mentioned that next week, we are going to have 3 days in a row of temps around 50 degrees and I literally found myself weeping with joy and relief at the thought of that. It's snowing here again today, it snowed yesterday, and Tuesday, and Monday, and Sunday. We are, I think, 2 inches away from breaking the all-time snow record in Boston.

So...just think of how glorious all of the spring flowers will be when the snow finally clears enough for them to peek through the snow. I think that once we stay above freezing, everything will melt quickly. Really, it has to end sometime...my bet is that we'll have the last snow of the season by the end of March. I hope!

Actually, I'm enjoying today. I had a big work deadline yesterday, so for all the previous snow days and delays, I was really stressed out trying to find people to help with my kids do I could work, fighting my way through on bad roads.

Today I can take a stress-free personal day and play in the snow with the kids and let my brain re-set. YAY!

Our winter in California hasn't been good due to lack of rain. We've had spring for a while now. It's been dry and sunny for a long time now. I'm sure that sounds great in the rest of the country, but we're in a drought and desperately need any water. Wish we could take all of the snow everyone's dealing with and put it in the Sierras.

In no time, I'll be enjoying the free sauna furnished by the MTA. Hazy, hot, humid, congested, unairconditioned subway stations. Twice daily during my commute. I think late April/ early May. Being drenched in sweat while wearing stockings, heels, balancing an iced coffee and newspaper, straphanging, and trying not to knock into the guy next to me does wonders for my pores.

Enjoy this bit of winter.

Best,

I am in Texas and we are not supposed to get this mess. THANK GOD it is a rarity here but this year has been way too often.

Today we were supposed to have 1/4" ice/sleet and woke up to about 6" of beautiful snow but I HATE snow and I HATE cold weather. I have been in bed sick and my dogs see the coyotes and bobcats at night going through the snow so they are barking and want to join but then, my dogs don't like to get their feet wet so they just think they want outside!!!

Give me the heat any day over this... I do much better in the heat and humidity. And they call it global warming, HA HA HA

12 days til the beach in Miami... I am counting down!!

Here in Saratoga County, yesterday was the first day in 8 weeks we had one second above freezing. Which, ya know, okay, that's what it's like here. But two consecutive brutal winters with a short, lame summer in between is.....well we just watch the forecast and can barely hear it over our own maniacal laughter. Snow Every. Single. Day.

On a bright note, been a hell of a year for property maintenance companies! Right? Or something.

Been looking at time shares in SIBERIA for next year.

We aren't having snow, but it's damn cold out-again. I like winter, but there have been too many super cold days. I have a long list of errands, and it's too damn cold for my toddler to be out. We'll head out this afternoon, when maybe it will feel like 5 degrees outside. Sigh.

I brought out the play dough. The kids are in heaven. I'm a mean mom, We rarely play with playdough because I can't stand the mess!

Yes, I'm anxious for spring, for flowers, for outside adventure.

Five minutes ago we saw a mouse dash across the hallway. Aaaack. And it's snowing hard outside with as much as 10 inches expected today and everything closed so we and mouse are stuck inside together....I guess the saturated ground, cold and dumping snow have driven the poor beastie inside, but I'm still glad I have traps and peanut butter to load them with. I don't even want us to walk around barefoot in the house now. Great addition of stress to the stress of another snow day in the mid-Atlantic, where, as you so rightly note, NYMetroMom, we just have to hunker down if there's more than an inch or two of snow.

Oh, please let mouse go away!

Snowing right now at my house. AGAIN. I'm so sick of shoveling that I just can't pretend to put up with it anymore. Really between the incredible amount of snow coupled with the extremely cold bouts we've had I'm just soooo over it all. Come on Spring!!!!

there's a foot of thick, sparkling, pure white crystalline beauty on the ground this morning, twinkling like diamonds in the sun.
by tomorrow the pristine blanket will be full of footprints and pathways, and the white purity will have dulled.
then we'll have weeks and weeks of calf-deep mud, patches of permafrost and a flooded barn to deal with.
ah, spring.

This year in Indy is better than last year but I am very sick of this weather. I am sick of shoveling my driveway to only have the plow come through a 2nd time and plow on more snow to shovel. I am sick of wearing hats, scarves and gloves. I am one who hates to wear boots fashion or not so I am very sick of them. I'm sick of trying to skate on ice to get in my building at work so that I don't fall and break my butt like I did last year. So Spring can't come fast enough. We have had snow for Easter so here's to hoping that this is the last we will see until next year. I wanted to hunt down that groundhog that predicted 6 more weeks of winter. I know he really can't predict the weather but it would have made me feel good.

Think positive thoughts. Find time to go out in the snow and enjoy it. Before you know it, it will be spring and summer and you will be wanting cooler weather.

I lived in Quebec north of Quebec City for four years and we had snow from the end of September to the middle of May. Fourth of July we had a snowball fight. By the time August rolled around all the snow was gone. Our winter temps were average of -30 below before the windchill factor. We also had plastic panels we put on the inside of the car so when your breath frosted the windows you could still see out of the side windows. We just went on about our business in the cold and did what we had to do. Shopping centers at that time had cars with running engines locked and no one was thinking about stealing one because it was so cold.

So enjoy your winter days and soon the green grass of spring and summer will be here. The mud and snow and sand will be gone and it will be hot and you will complain about the heat.

When the temp got to 0 everyone would run around as if it was summer because of it being so cold. People would even sun bathe on chairs in the snow just to get some rays.

PS I kind of miss it. I don't miss the shoveling or scooping of the snow out the driveway every morning after hubby went to work and son went to school. I was younger then.

I'm sorry. I don't.
Usually out here in Seattle we are complaining too...about rain. And right now it was 62 and sunny and supposed to be that way all weekend.
I am assuming that the east coast is going to have a boom of new babies in October/November. :)

I just like to do what I can to remember these cold months and save that thought for the summer months when it's 99 degrees with a heat index of 110.
We seem to go from too cold to too hot with very little space in between.
I like warm weather better BUT in the winter we keep the bedrooms at 64 and I sleep much better in a cold bedroom!
In the summer we can't run the AC to keep it that low so I end up tossing and turning a lot more at night.

Here in Georgia we're getting snow and ice. Something I never expected when I moved here from California!

I'm not looking forward to our humid summer, but I am. If that makes sense. I've acclimated to our mild temps here. So this snow and ice is just COLD!

You'll get through this!!
