One winter when it began to snow early we couldn't find boots even in Walmart, Sears, etc. We actually found a used pair at Salvation Army thrift store for 50 cents - it's not worth buying expensive ones becuase they grow out of them each year. I actually just put about 4 pairs in the thrift store box this weekend - so someone is going to get some great boots!

Target has a ton of kids snowboots that are easy on the price and last forever. I always stick my kids feet in plastic bags regardless of if the snow boots are lined or not, because they WILL get snow down in there.

Vincent (VincentShoeStoreUS.com) makes great snow boots. A little pricey but if you can swing it - great.

My kids really like the Croc boots. They keep their feet dry and warm and they can wear them all day because they are not clunky.

my boys wear keen boots (like the sandals) easy off and on - and most importantly - they could do them all by themselves.

Stride Rite! I would take him to the shoe store and let him try-on several different types. Whatever boots he'll walk around in are the winners. We have dont this with my son for the last two years and he wears them without complaint. Make sure that they are lined, waterproof and easy to get on and off.

I don't have a specific boot, but we got hand-me-downs that had an inner liner. These were great because we could dry the liner very easily.
