Small Red Bumps

My three year old has small blotchy red bumps all over her stomach. I just noticed them yesterday and she said that they don't itch. After I while I started noticing them on my 9 month old but only on the bottoms of her feet and a couple on her leg. I put cortizone on them and it seemed to work a little even though it did not get rid of them fully. I babysit for the two neighbor girls and when they came over this morning I noticed that the 2 year old also has them on her tummy but hers is healed better than my childrens. What is it and is it possible that my kids could have gotten from them? It is starting to scare me.

What can I do next?

Hello! I noticed some small bumps on my 6 y/o daughter's arm and chest and thought it was poison ivy, but she said it didn't itch. I took her to the doctor yesterday and was told it was Molluscum Contagiosum, which is harmless, but contagious by skin contact. I looked it up on WebMD and found this video http://www.webmd.com/video/kids-skin-rash-solutions that explains what it is.

When my daughter was little and still in daycare she had the hand and foot rash that others are mentioning, but it came with a super high fever. Hope this helps a little.

I doubt it is chicken pox since there is a vaccine for that now. With the crazy weather we have been having in Cleveland lately, it could just be heat rash. My son gets it all of the time. It looks like someone took a red pen and drew dots on him. It never seems to bother him. The doctor said to not worry about it if it isn't bothering him and it isn't causing a fever. I hope this helps.

It sounds like fleas. We had them at one point on a stray cat that gave them to our cat. Check your pets.

Could be hand foot and mouth (my daughter had it) although I don't remember it being on her stomach. (hence the name) My son had scarlet fever which is a type of strep throat. He didn't have other major symptoms but, when I called the nurse she asked me to bring him in and was diagnosed with scarlet fever. Best thing is to see the doctor!

Depending on the size of the bumps it's probably either hand foot & mouth or just a minor heat rash. If the bumps are decent size and look like chicken pox but they don't itch then it's probably hand foot & mouth disease in which case I would go see your pediatrician. However if they are just tiny little red spots then it's probably just a heat rash which is common in infants & toddlers and really nothing to worry about.

It sounds like Roseola. I dont think it needs treated. It will go away. It is a viral rash. The spots on the bottom of the feet and palms of hands are usually a tell tale sign. If they dont get better soon, go see the dr. Just in case. My daughter had Roseola. No big deal. If it is Roseola, they usually have a low fever and can have periods of crankiness, but the rash doesnt itch.

Hi C.,

You may want to go onto WebMD and see if they can give you any info. You just pick areas on the body and explain what it is that is happening and it will give you some ideas of what it could be. You should still follow up with your DR.

Could be hands foot & mouth disease. My son had it when he was 10 months old, and they were also on his legs and feet. It spread to his hands then in his mouth. There is no treatment or medicine to give them to cure it. It has to run it's course just like chicken pox. I would definitely take them to the DR to get a proper diagnosis though. Good Luck

C.,
This sounds like hand foot and mouth disease. My daughter had it and it looks like the chicken pox but it goes away on it's own in a few days. It;s considered a virus and there are no antibiotics to cure it. I'm assuming that this is what they have and it could be given by anyone that has contact with your child. Check with the pediatrician's office and they can confirm it for you. Good luck.

Hey how are you??? Do you have any animals?? I had cat that was flea dipped- Given meds-and Still I ended up with fleas- Which for some reason loved my Olivia. I went down stairs to the basement, and it was like an infest of fleas. Sometimes no matter what you do, your animals can still get fleas- Yuck!!! Good Luck!
