Slippers for Toddlers?

hi all--

we are moving into a new house that has all refinished hardwood floors. i was wondering what type of slipper would be good for my 18-month-old daughter. the house is two floors, and the stairs are carpeted, but the rest of the rooms will be hardwood. i'm figuring that refinished floors won't give splinters, but i would like a good (not too expensive) non-skid indoor slipper/slip-on that she can wear (and keep her feet warm in winter). all suggestions are welcome-- thanks!

follow-up question: besides the carter socks, what are the brands of "slipper socks" do people like? thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi there - I have always liked the toddler slippers at LL Bean (very warm - non slip sole) or the ones by robbeez (not so warm but very flexible & non-slip for little feet)

Hope this helps,

I had this problem while my kids were young - for some reason they just couldn't grasp the concept of walking on a slippery floor and - unless barefoot - always needed some kind of "grippy" sole on their socks. They didn't always want slippers though - it made their foot too hot. So we always got socks with gripper stuff on the bottom - usually could find them at KMart. When I couldn't find them - I made them using Puff Paint for fabric. Just a few polkadots on the bottom of their socks worked wonders!

You can try Robeez slippers they are great. Also you can turn any pair of socks that your daughter likes into non-skid slipper socks by putting puff paint on the bottoms. A great art project for your daughter too - she get to make her own slippers!

I always have my daughter in Carter Socks. They are just normal socks but have "carters" on the bottom in a material that lets the kids grip on the floor and not slide all over the place...cheaper that slippers too.

here is a picture of one...its the pink sock on the bottom left

I'd honestly not worry about the floors giving splinters if they're recently refinished. There's so much polyurethane on finished floors, they're highly protected unless something is dropped on them.

That being said, you can find cheap slippers anywhere - target, walmart, etc. You can find the slipper socks at target as well.

You can also do things like ballet slippers (payless carries them as well as some targets) which have leather soles and would prevent slipping or Robeez/Crocs.

We have two boys who are completely in love with their Spiderman slippers. They are inexpensive slippers from Target or KMart or someplace like that. They have non-skid bottoms, and they wear them during the day, at night, and any other time we let them.

I usually get slippers from LL Bean for my son each year. They are warm and don't slip off. I have always been happy with them. I am sure they have sizes for an 18 mo old (my son is going on 4). Also you can try The Children's Place, but the last ones I got weren't too tight around the ankle and can slip off. Good luck!

no slip socks really stink on our wood floors the kids are always falling. My little guy had robeez until he was 2 and they were wonderful. This year each child got a pair from children's place on sale for only $5 they have an actual rubber sole so they don't fall. Be careful of the big character slippers they can be dangerous.

carters and even oshkosh carries non skid sock up to 6 years old. but i buy my non skid slippers for my kids at landsend. usually i find a great deal at the store (have bought them before for 3.99) and i stock up on them as they seem to get lost. so lands end non skid are the best slippers. my kitchen floors are death trap if water drops on them so these slippers are the best for my kids.

I recently bought velour non-skid slippers from onestepahead and they've worked out great.

I agree with the slipper socks. I've bought several pairs of slippers for my child (because I wear them all the time) and not one pair has ever stayed on her feet. I don't know why but they don't.

I tried a lot of them (slippers, socks, slipper-socks) - but my son wouldn't keep them on his feet no matter what I did. My child would walk bare foot on snow if I let him.

My boys had Robbiez slipper. They were very light weight and completely made out of leather with a suede sole. They are bit pricey, but in my opinion worth the money. A much cheaper alternative are the non-slip socks, which also worked well for my boys. When they grew older I bought them regular slippers at Target, but they hated them because their feet got really sweaty in them.
