I was wondering if anyone could let me know what slings they used and which ones you would recommend. My daughter, now 13 months old, wanted to be held constantly so I want to be prepared with a sling that will be comfy for my next due Nov. 1st.

What can I do next?

I have a kozy Mei tai and I really like it. I also am planning on trying a wrap. I went to a NINO Babywearing group to help me decide. You can learn about and try different carriers, slings and wraps. I know someone else mentioned one in a post and if you're looking for another group you can look on the NINO website: http://www.nineinnineout.org/

I started out with the baby Bjorn, which was only comfortable for going on short walks. The heavier my daughter got, the more painful the Bjorn became. So I started looking around and found mamasmilk.com slings. I absolutely love mine! There are several different ways to carry your baby in it - instead of just the one position the baby bjorn allows. And it can be used when they're toddlers even! I use mine for walking, doing house work, working at the computer - it's really comfortable and has really helped a lot. (and they're stylish).

S.,

My favorite is the Maya-wrap. The learning curve is steep, but it is great once you get used to it. I used it for my daughter when she was a newborn and I still use it with her and with my son who is almost 4 and weighs 45 lbs. It is very versatile. Good luck!

Hi S., you've gotten a lot of great suggestions. I am the leader of a Babywearing group that meets once a month. The next one will be on Sept. 8 at noon in Troy. You're welcome to join us. (Husbands and kids are also welcome.) You would be able to see and try different baby carriers. You may find that you wish to get two, as some are better suited for toddlers and others work best with newborns.

I love my Mei Tai and will also be getting a Moby wrap for mine next, also due in Nov. Both look complicated but are very easy once you learn how to use them. They are very versitile and can be worn front(facing in or out), back, and hip. The other thing I love is that my husband can wear it to without having to adjust straps. I had a hip hammock for my 1st and I loved it but it took forever to adjust it to fit my husband and cut into my neck as she got heavier.

I second the vote for an Ergo (or Beco Baby). They're kind of expensive, but they can be used for a long time, infant through toddler in a variety of positions. They're very comfortable for mom and baby. Another similar but less structured (and less expensive) sling is a Mei-Tai. They also offer a variety of positions, but may not be able to hold quite as much weight as an Ergo due to construction.

I've also used a Hotsling and a standard Bjorn. They're ok, the Hotsling is really quick and easy, but my 12 month old daughter tends to wiggle and squirm until she's half out of it. I really didn't like the Bjorn. I'm pretty large-chested, and and exclusively front-hold only worked when she was really little. I love my Ergo!

I used the "over-the-shoulder-baby-holder" which is fantastic! It even comes with a video of how to use it! My daughter is 10 months old, and she really likes it too! A patient of mine actually brought one in for me while I was pregnant, she sells them through her website at www.seashorebaby.com She also does cloth diapers and the like, which are great! =)

I really like my hotslings, but slings are a VERY personal choice. I think you should try a bunch out if you could. There are a few different types at Tree City Diapers in Ann Arbor. They have samples you can try on.

Hi S.,

I recently got an Ergo Baby Carrier and really like it. So far I've only used the carrier for my infant, but they say you can use it with toddlers because it can be used as a front carrier, hip carrier or on your back. Here is a link: http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/

I tried many with my son, and didn't like them for various reasons. The one I found and LOVED is called a Moby wrap. It can be used to hold your baby in seven different positions and isn't much more than a really really long scarf. It held him very securley and the weight limit is 25 lbs. I found it to be the most comfortable for him and me!

Hi S.,
Maya wrap has been my favorite by far, still use it with my almost 1 and 2.5 year old. I ordered mine from nurturedfamily.com, it's a great site for many things. Congratulations on baby number 2.

www.kangarookorner.com has the one I used. I used the fleece pouch since he was born in winter but they have others to choose from. I really love my pouch and so did my son.
