i was wondering if anyone knew about children (or individuals) who sleep with their eyes half open. my 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 (especially this one) have a tendency to sleep with their eyes half-way open. i wonder if this is normal or if it has to do with something else.
you ladies are all great!

SEE! Even with their eyes half closed there is nothing to worry about!

Could also be a indicator of urofacial syndrome, I have two daughters that do the same thing. The Optometrist just mentioned it to me.

Hi R.! Both my 4 year old and 5 1/2 month old do this. They got it from me! I told my kids' pediatrician about it and he didn't think anything of it, just chuckled and asked me if I get dry eyes. I don't have any problems and my kids have perfect vision. So I say, it's normal =).

Hi R.,

My son does it and so does my brother. I believe it runs in families and I really don't think there's anything wrong with them. It's kinda strange at times, but it does happen and it's quite 'normal' for us. So I wouldn't worry if I were you =)

I sleep with my eyes half open...so I have been told by my sisters, who said it is really freaky looking. But I have no problems; I just have big eyes I guess! But if you are really concerned ask your kids Dr on your next check up!

I know you have a lot of responses to this already, but I thought I would add, that my son slept with his eyes half open as a child and I did ask his doctor about it. he said it was completely normal. I had a good laugh at your family members who blaimed it on a lack of iron. Say what?

Isn't that the freakiest thing in the world -- to gaze adoringly down on your sweet, slumbering bundle of joy and see (eek!) zombie eyes!? ;-) Two of my kids did it for ages with no ill effects other than giving me massive heebie-jeebies. We still joke about it. One used to do it so badly that you could see nothing but the whites of her eyes 'peering' out from her lids like she stepped out of a cheesy horror flick. I'd gently close the lids, but they'd be open again in a couple of minutes. If you're worried, always check with your pediatrician. But for what it's worth, it worked out fine for us.

Hi R.! My brother, who is now 41 yrs old has ALWAYS slept with his eyes at LEAST 1/2 open! That I know of, there isn't anything wrong with it...other than it looks kind of creepy! =) I don't think you have anything to worry about, but if your little ones complain of dry or itchy eyes, then I would ask your pediatrician. Take care! W. (Mommy of two goys, 7yr old and 4yr old)
