Sleep Talking - Green Cove Springs,FL

I think I need to duct tape my husbands mouth before he goes to sleep. The other night he bolts upright and asks:
"Was that noise your thing?"
"What thing?"
"You're other thing, I can't think of the name of it."
"My cell phone?"
"No, you're other thing."
"I coughed, was that it?"
"No, it was your other thing."
"I have no idea what you are talking about." Pause "Are you even awake?"
"Guess I dreamed it." Then back to sleep he goes. Mind you he is sitting up with his eyes open the whole time.

It's bad enough when he talks in his sleep, I hate when what he says is actually rational. Once he told me to flip the switch to turn it to invisible mode, then laughed like a loon. At least then I knew he was talking in his sleep, but when he says things that could be true (ie hearing a sound) it makes it hard to determine. Do you're fellas talk in their sleep? Do they ever make sorta sense, so you are confused whether or not they are actually awake?

What can I do next?

Too funny ! My hubby does this. Sometimes I can understand it and sometimes its more gibberish. One time though he was talking about clucking like a chicken and then did it ! He didn't remember the next morning so I have no idea what that was about. Sometimes it's really entertaining.

My husband talks in his sleep. It is really creapy sometimes. He has three different talking patterns. The first one: Nothing he says makes much sense, and he will usually roll over and end it with, Why'd you wake me up? I just ignore him when he is like that. The second one: This style can sometimes be complete gibberish, and often goes back and forth between English and Japanese. The first time he did this was when I was pregnant. He sat up in bed and just started laughing so hard. Then turned to me and said, "Bobo is dancing, and someone let the pigeons out of our closet. Please go find them." He had his eyes open, grabbed my arm when he was laughing, and then insisted that I needed to go get our pigeons. I thought he was joking, and laughed. He looked at me hard for a few minutes, and finally said, "I guess you don't really want our pigeons anymore." I told him that I definately didn't want pigeons in our house, and he seemed satisfied and closed his eyes. So weird, but that time was funny. The third type: This one is the easiest now for me to recognize that he is asleep, but it wasn't the first few times he did it. It usually makes sense to some degree, but just right about the time that I think he might actually be awake, he switches into his profesional voice. At least that is the voice he uses whenever he talks with someone from his workplace on the phone. Then I just tell him to roll over, and he usually is quiet after that. It can be so hard to sleep sometimes. He talks and snores, but than I grind my teeth. I guess learning to live with these annoyances is just part of accepting and loving your partner for better or for worse...

I always tell my husband that sleeping next to someone is highly over-rated. I deal with grunting, groaning, snoring, and for lack of a better description, sleep farts. I hate it. My sleep for the past almost 20 years has been nearly destroyed more than the sleep deprivation I experienced with our 4 children. If I had it my way, I'd sleep in another bed in another part of the house. I think I heard my husband talk in his sleep only once and it was only a word or two. Geesh, you poor woman, you get complete conversations with a sleeping man. I'd suggest ear plugs...that's what my husband says I need. LOL. Yeah, and sometimes a nose plug too. ; )

I often talk in my sleep. It can be a very frustrating experience for my husband, but it seems that whether or not I make sense depends on how deeply I am sleeping. I can recall having conversations when I am barely asleep, and even some of my husbands comments, so when he wakes me up, I know what has been said, though I couldn't control it. Then there are other times when I have no recollection when he tells me the next morning about it. At times, it gets so disruptive my husband will shake me or speak loudly to wake me up because I have scared him or am keeping him up-kind of like I do with him when he is snoring. I can tell you that if I really hear something in the middle of the night and I am awake, I will not only speak, but I will lean over my husband and shake him to wake him up as well. Suggest that he do that, so if he doesn't, you know not to worry and that he is only sleep-talking. Sorry you're on the other end of it-I always feel bad for my husband!

My poor husband-I am the sleep talker/walker in the family and I do all sorts of weird things. The other night he says I pounced on him in his sleep and told him he dropped the baby (who was in another room asleep in her crib :)). I'm sure it's not easy living with/sleeping with a sleep walker!

Both my husband and daughter do this. Once my husband grabbed my hand and told me to drop the knife. WHAT??? I was sound asleep. It took me 2 minutes to get my hand back and for him to lay down and go back to sleep.

My daughter talks all the time, but has recently started sleep walking. She tends to come in and talk gibberish to me. I gently take her back to bed, although sometimes she fights me on it.

I talk in my sleep. Often about squirrels I'm told. My husband says he just "pats (my) fanny and rolls over." He says at first he was terribly confused because I made zero sense most of the time. Now that he knows I am asleep, he just ignores me. The one time that'll be acceptable he says with a devilish grin.

Mine does this once in a while....usually it's something that doesn't make sense.
Personally, I'd take the talking over the Mack Truck Snoring any day!

My husband doesn't talk in his sleep. However my little brother does and so does our 2 oldest boys (they are only 5 and 4). I remember having alot of conversations w/ my brother and he not remember them the next day. I've even gone to get him something to eat or drink (whatever he asked for) and him not remember eating or drinking the next day. Our boys usually talk about something that happened that day or something that they may be scared of. It can be creppy when you can't really tell if they are asleep or not.

My husband mumbles in his sleep and he'll laugh like a loon too. A lot of times he'll mumble something and I'll wake up saying, "What" he'll mumble some more and then laugh. I just roll over and try to go back to sleep. It can be really annoying.

Oh I have talked in my sleep for years and by now, my husband is used to it. Like your husband, mine would also get confused because I sometimes made sense :) If I have had a very stressful day, then I really talk in my sleep and have been known to have night terrors... It's just always been this way with me.. Sometimes, I know I am talking in my sleep and am half way between sleep and a waking mode but... I can't quite wake up.. As a kid and younger adult, I did a lot of sleep walking too.. I guess some people are wired differently.. My husband rarely talks in his sleep..

I was the sleep talker. (I don't sleep as well anymore so don't talk in my sleep as much anymore). I would say all kinds of things.

What you are describing with your husband - his sitting up and talking and saying he must have dreamed it - THAT part he wasn't asleep, but what happens is we wake from something in our dream and we have no clue it was part of a dream and not reality, and we are not fully alert- ... so drowsy.... and so we drift right back off leaving our poor spouse wide awake and wondering.

I used to even be able to fall asleep at night while answering some question or other and my speech would just turn to babbling and my husband knew I was actually asleep (lol - no insomnia problem for ME!)

And yes, I would laugh out loud at funny things happening in my dreams. In the mornings, if I'd just been dreaming, I'd have leftover feelings of laughter or irritability, depending on what I was dreaming.

I could semi-wake up like your husband-go right back to sleep, and right back to dreaming.

Us sleep talkers really are sorry for disturbing our spouse's sleep.... I am glad my husband thought it was funny. He'd tell me about some of it. Sometimes I'd even wake myself up with my own shout or something.
