Sleep Sheep or Other Sound Machine Recommendation

Does anybody have the "Sleep Sheep" or any other sound machine they really liked for their infant? I need something to drown out some of the household noise for my 7 week old little boy while he's trying to nap. I have a 2 1/2 year old as well, and as much as I try to have her do some quiet activities while he's napping, anybody that has had a 2 year old knows it's not possible to keep them quiet all the time! :) I am trying to get him used to sleeping through the noise, but I think a little white noise or some type of sound machine would help him a lot. So I'm just looking for any recommendations on ones that you liked a lot???

What can I do next?

We just used a small ciircular fan on the floor of their room - easy to find, easy to replicate at someone else's house!

I really like the sleep sheep. I bought the smaller version which is plenty big. My son slept with it until he was over a year old. I now have a 3 month old and he doesn't seem phased by his 2.5 year old brother's loud voice.

We have two a Dex and a Homedics sound spa/alarm clock. I like the Homedics because it can get louder and drown out my preschooler running around on hard wood floors. The Dex is good too but just not as loud. Bothe of these run all night or have timers. I don't like the sleep sheep - they are cute but really not loud enough unless you put them in the bed with the kid, and because of the risk of SIDS I never wanted to do that.

We've kept a small fan in our daughter's bedroom since she was about 4 months old. Works great.

We use a white noise cd - with all 6 of my kids. I looked at the white noise cds and was turned off by their price. The cd is great - it goes with us everywhere (grandmas house, hotels) and helps calm the kids and drown out any noise that otherwise might keep them awake. I sell one on my website and have it cheap so that you can get multiples to keep where ever your child might need to sleep.

Hope that helps and good luck getting your little one to sleep! And, congratulations on your baby!

God Bless!

I have a CD player in the bedroom when the kids were little and played things like "Peaceful Ocean Surf", "Mountain Stream", "Mountain Thunderstorm", etc...I got them all at Hastings or Wal-Mart.

We have had the DEX Sound Sleeper since our 3 year old was born, and he still uses it every night. It has a variety of different sounds (we use rain) and is reasonably priced (check Amazon); plus, their customer service is superb. When our first one quit working about 6 months ago (something was wrong with the adaptor plug) they sent out an entire new replacement rather than just another plug. We'd managed to fix the plug, so now we have a spare. We had the sleep sheep, too, but I think it shut off after a few minutes, and we wanted something that would run all night - this was the ticket for us. Good luck!

I am a 52 yr old woman, & grew up with my father working 3rd shift & there were 6 kids in the house. All he used was a simple fan to drowned out the noise of all us kids. To this day I raised my kids with fans in the rooms. So my children both sleep with fans & now my grandchildren do the same. Doesn't matter if it's winter or summer the fan is going if we're going to sleep. Just point it the other way if you don't want the draft of the air. So you really don't have to buy anything fancy, just the hum of the fan will put you to sleep.

My boys loved the sleep sheep when they were babies. Later I had the HomeMedics (I think that is what it is called) sound machine with projector, which I also use with my 19 month old daughter. It has several sounds to choose from and projects images on the ceiling.

I just recently got the sleep sheep for me second on the way but find it works like magic on my 2 yr old. My neighbor uses it for her 6 month and 3 year old as well. We actually had a Rainforest sound maker in my sons crib that he loved. As he got a little older, he learned he could hit the toucan and turn it on himself!

We have the homedics sound machine and projector. Love it! I used it with my daughter (now almost 3, stopped with her at around 1.5 or 2) and using it now with my 7 month old. Don't know what we would do without it. Our projector stopped moving the images about a year into having it, but we didn't mind. It was basically needed for the nightlight and sound making aspect, not the entertaining moving picture. Good luck!

I have the sleep sheep in my 8mo room and it seems to work great. I also plug my ipod into my sons room at night and do a repeat on the couple sleep sounds i downloaded from iTunes. That way When baby brother naps he has some white noise and at night if the baby cries it doesn't wake up my older son.

Good Luck!

I have not personally tried the sleep sheep, but I can totally vouch for cloud b products! They are wonderful and very well made. The only reason we didn't get the sleep sheep, is because our alarm clocks have great white noise features. You can get white noise machines, too. I've seen them at places, like bed bath and beyond. Most alarm clocks will have them. White noise really does help my son. We live facing a street and have lots of dogs, in the neighborhood. I don't even notice all the commotion with white noise.

We have a small clip on fan attached to my daughter's dresser. She's almost 4 and we've used it since she was a baby.
