I think I have developed insomnia. Does anyone know of any natural healthy solutions? I'm trying to stay away from prescriptions or any over the counter drugs, but if I have to use them, I will.

Sincerely,
D.

What can I do next?

Sleep is vital to our mind, body & spirit. Its the time when all our cells recharge. Developing insomnia is a learned habit & you can unlearn it by listening to a relaxation recording nightly. You can get them online or at a bookstore. If this habit has been longstanding or if there are fearful thought patterns that may need to be interrupted consider consulting with a certified hypnotist.

Do you take thyroid medication? Sometimes if the level is too high it can make sleep difficult. Ask me how i know!

They say that if you can't get to sleep after 20 minutes, to get up and do something else until you get sleepy again.

hth!

One thing that helps me is exercising regularly. A warm (not hot) bath helps me to relax. Eating a snack that has some tryptophan (think a slice or two of turkey) is supposed to help as well.

Good luck!

Hi D.:

There is a new thing on the market called Enlyten strips. They are stips like the triaminc ones that are absorbed into your body in your cheek. Anyway there is one strip called sleep which has the melatonin in it which is not a drug we actaully produce it in our bodies to put us to sleep. I tried one of these things and they were great I could feel my body relax and I was asleep within 10 minutes. Sleep studies in different parts of the country are going to start using these. Anyway if you want to try one let me know and I can get you a trial pack from the person I got it from they do work.

I just asked my doc about this three weeks ago! Certain points of your hormone cycle can trigger insomnia. If you take birth control, you may have insomnia before you start your new pill pack. It has something to do with estrogen levels dipping before you get that first pill back in your system.
